From the sounds of things, Mulhern may not have been that far off. NASCAR's pretty much said already they're going to make some bigger changes to the schedule when the new TV deal with FOX and NBC begins.

Seems there's a lot of momentum for putting Sonoma in the Chase, maybe replacing Dover? That could make room for Road America in the future to pick up Sonoma's old date.

Another one that seems to have a lot of traction is Darlington swapping dates with Atlanta in 2015 - giving the Southern 500 it's traditional Labor Day Weekend date.

A third thing that's getting a lot of talk is a venue change for the finale - whether it's Phoenix or Vegas.

Man I'm gettin awful sick of Nascar pandering to fickle fans . They won't like these changes either (you can take that to the bank).

Ain't that the truth? Heck we complain about moving races that we don't even attend. o_O Like Darlington for example. People are now having a fit that it has been moved from Mother's Day to April 12th next year. They're still running there and that's the main thing. Not only that, it results in an additional night race on the schedule albeit at yet another 1.5er. Whether it's in April or May I'll be sitting on my a$$ watching it.

Actually, I love it. The chase schedule has been in need of some freshening up for some time. I also LOVE a third road course race.. and at Road America.

The Chase is in desperate need of change and has been from the start. Personally, I'd rather scrap it but that ain't going to happen. Unfortunately, there are just too many intermediate tracks to start with.

I'd scrap Chicago entirely from the Chase but that's not going to happen either.

I hope these changes also include another short track, possibly Iowa. I really don't care, I'd just like to see at least one more short track added to the schedule as well.

I heard we're gonna have our first official cup race outside of the contintential united states... gonna be @ mexico city where nationwide ran b4

Not going to happen.

The schedule needs to be freshened up. Shuffle the deck every few years. Give different tracks a chance to host Chase races.

If you put a little smiley face after stuff you make up , folks won't ask you to prove it . Just sayin. :)

When you think about it, the Chase was dropped on top of a schedule that had been in existence for a few years already. They've made a few tweeks since then but it doesn't seem that they've ever seriously considered what most of us would like (besides eliminating the Chase completely): 10 races at a true variety of tracks to determine the champion.

The implementation of the Chase sucked as much as the Chase sucks. If you're going to have a playoff system, at least manufacture a schedule that generates excitement. They've made some changes but not nearly enough. I get why they moved the first race in the Chase to Chicago but man it sucks.

I'd rather see Watkins Glen in the Chase instead of Sonoma but you're probably pushing it with the weather if it's not one of the first few races in the Chase. But it seems like Sonoma in the Chase and Road America picking up a date down the road is gaining momentum.

I watched a bit of that world series game the other day . Does anyone know why they don't play three three inning games instead if one nine inning game ? It would make more sense , draw a bigger audience and make a lot more money at the gate.

Why didn't you watch the entire game?

Personally, I think that they need to shorten the game to 7 innings. The world's changing. People are changing. 9 innings is way too long to hold the fan's attention. Shorten the game to 7 innings to create a sense of urgency. While we're at it, we need to give the team in the lead at half way an extra run so that the teams try harder.

Ok you know I can't let this one go without chiming in. Stick and ball sports are way different than racing, it is apples and oranges, not a good comparison, especially baseball. Now if you want to compare soccer to Nascar, I can see that....ROFLMAO!

Soccer? I feel Andy chiming in on this conversation.

I was thinking that golf was a better comparison . It starts on Thursday or Friday on the golf channel , then switches to a major network on Sunday for five or six hours till it's over . Never once have I heard a golfer complain about the length of the telecast. The tv cameras rarely show anybody but the leaders , it's aero dependent , and they don't have push to pass.

Nice!

I was under the impression that the reason they moved the Chase opener to Chicago was in order to get more publicity for the Chase.

But living in the the Chicagoland area, I see NASCAR getting very little coverage, even when Dale Earnhardt Jr. has got the main drag in downtown Chicago closed down and is doing dough-nuts in front of the Chicago Theatre.

Sport fans in Chicago have got too much going on at that time of year to suddenly get interested in NASCAR.

I'd like to see the Chase opener at what many consider to be NASCAR central: Charlotte.

Nascar needs to get over the fact they can't compete with NFL and MLB this time of the year. Charlotte makes sense, and end it in Vegas.
