In this post, you will find all of the rules and regulations of the Fantasy League. For returning players, not much has changed besides how we are handling this year's Duels. If nothing else, I suggest you look at the Duels section of this post. Another major change is that if a driver's name is repeated, I won't count either spot of the driver as it is unclear which position you intended to place the driver.

All Daytona information will be posted in the comments instead of in this blog post. For future weeks, though, the regular weekly information will be the blog post. If you are looking for procedures for the All-Star Race, they will be posted closer to the event.

Of course, we are looking for full season participants. However, if that is deterring you from playing at all, please know that we would rather have you play on a part-time basis than not at all. Please tell your friends and bring them in as well! It's entirely free to play and no personal information is required.

Before we begin, to all those that previously registered for the 2018 season, please confirm your information! Below is the list of registered players that have confirmed their 2018 registration.

Here's a quick summary of the rules that you will find in this blog post. To learn more, check the table of contents below and navigate from there.

- To register, you need to claim a number, color scheme, and select one of the 3 manufacturers. It is completely free and no personal information is required. Full season participation is preferred.
- There are 6 different ways to post your predictions. In our racing-reference.info blogs and separate forum, racing-forums.com threads, Facebook page events, Twitter, and e-mail.
- Saves are returning same as before. You get 2 throughout the first half of the season. They give you a certain amount of points if you are absent. A third absence results in a loss of playoff eligibility.
- Scoring remains the same. Top-10 predictions are submitted, 2 points for every driver correct, 4 if in the Top-5, 15 for the winner. Top-10 in each stage earns bonus points along with the Top-10 finishers of the race. 1st gets 10 extra points, 2nd gets 9, down to 1 point for 10th.
- You win and you're in the Playoff. 16 players for Cup, 12 for Xfinity, 8 for Truck. At each reset, playoff points are added to your score. 1 point for every stage win, 5 for every race win, plus some for finishing in the Top-10 of regular season points.
- 4 prestigious races in each series together make the Fantasy NASCAR Grand Slam where stages and the race itself are worth 1 extra playoff point each.
- Duels count for points for the Top-10 finishers, similar to a stage BUT you can only participate in ONE Duel.

I. REGISTERING

First things first, don't let the word registering/sign-up/etc. fool you or scare you. This league is 100% free to participate in, no personal information is required to compete. For formality, I do require a quick sign-up. All you have to do is inform me how you would like to build your fantasy race team. You need to choose a number, color scheme, and manufacturer (Chevrolet, Ford, or Toyota) along with the username you wish to be referred to as in the league. You can participate in any NASCAR series you wish.

We are looking for full season commitments from our players. However, I would rather have you play part time than not at all. The more people we have, the better. But registration for the 2018 season does have a deadline. If you wish to remain eligible for the playoffs, you need to register by the 3rd race of the season in each series. Overall, registration closes after the 6th race of the season in each series.

In addition, if you register and do not play by the 3rd race of the season, you lose playoff eligibility and if you do not play by the 6th race of the season, your registration is removed and you'll have to wait until the following year to play again.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

II. WAYS TO PLAY

You play by posting your Top-10 prediction for the upcoming race, we cover all 3 of NASCAR's National Series, and you receive points based on the accuracy of that prediction. You may change your prediction as many times as you'd like before the green flag of the race, but you must notify me of such changes. It does not matter how you list your Top-10 prediction. However, you must specify between drivers with similar names (i.e. Kurt/Kyle Busch), if I cannot definitively tell which driver you are selecting, that driver will not be included in your scoring. This is the same for if a driver is listed twice. If 11 names are listed, the 11th name is taken out of the prediction. I recommend putting both the number and full name of the driver to avoid any confusion or error, although this is not a requirement. It is also recommended that you label which series your prediction is for.

There are several ways to post your prediction, you can use any one of these methods:

1. Our main location is http://www.racing-reference.info in the blog section. On the main page, scroll down to where you see the blogs. Fantasy related blogs are separated and labeled. You are looking for blogs with the title "RR Fantasy NASCAR" corresponding to the upcoming weekend. Click on the blog and be sure to read it as there could be important information. To participate, click on the heading that says "Comment on this blog", scroll through the comments and post your Top-10 prediction as a comment. Be sure to have your username included with your post.

2. We are also on a http://www.racingreference.boards.net NOTE: You must have a log-in profile to use this method. On the main page, scroll down to see boards in the "General Discussion" section. Click on "Fantasy Racing". From here, click on the thread titled "RR Fantasy NASCAR" that matches to the upcoming weekend. On that thread, comment your Top-10 prediction.

3. The other website we are on is https://www.racing-forums.com NOTE: You must have a log-in profile to use this method. On the main page, click on "NASCAR Chat". Then scroll to find a thread titled "RR Fantasy NASCAR" that is associated with the upcoming weekend. On that thread, comment your Top-10 prediction.

4. Like our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/RRFantasyNASCAR Each race for each series will have its own event page. Go to our Facebook page and on the left side you'll see "Events" Click on that and you should find event pages for each race. On the event page, post your Top-10 prediction for that race. Be sure to clarify what your username is that you registered with.

5. Follow us on Twitter https://www.twitter/com/RRFantasyNASCAR (seeing a pattern yet?) and tweet your Top-10 prediction to our Twitter handle. Just start your tweet with "@RRFantasyNASCAR" and then include your Top-10 prediction. Again, please clarify what your registered username is.

6. You can also email your Top-10 to me. This is also the best way to contact me privately. The email used for Fantasy League and blogging purposes is [email protected] (Hey! There it is again!) Once more, please clarify your registered username so I know who I'm receiving predictions from.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

III. ABSENCE POLICY

I will remind you that we would prefer to have full season commitment from our players. Of course, we understand life happens sometimes and an absence can be unavoidable. So that's why we have Saves.

At the beginning of the season, you are given 2 Saves. If you are absent for a race, you use your first Save. Your Save will give you 75% of the last place finisher's point total*. So, if the last place finisher scored 12 points, your first Save will give you 9 points. This way you do not fall too far behind your competitors but it also ensures that your participation will always score more points that an absent player would score. If you are absent a second time, your second and final Save is used. It will give you 50% of the last place finisher's score*. Using the earlier example, your second Save will give you 6 points. Saves can only be used during the first half of the season (18 races in Cup, 16 in Xfinity, 11 in Trucks), this is to encourage participation in the races leading up to the Playoff.

* - Stage points not included

If you are absent for a third time at any point in the regular season, you lose your Playoff eligibility but you are permitted and encouraged to continue playing for the remainder of the season and will still have the opportunity to win races.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IV. POINTS SYSTEM

The points system is staying the same as it was in 2017 due to its highly competitive nature. As I have said, you play by presenting a Top-10 prediction for the race. For every driver you correctly predict to finish in the Top-10, you earn 2 points. If you correctly predict a driver in the Top-5, that is another 2 points, making it 4 points for a correct Top-5 prediction. Predicting the winner of the race correctly gives you an extra 10 points, adding to the 4 points for being in the Top-5 makes it 14. For every driver you predict in the exact spot in which they finish, you earn one bonus point. So predicting the winner of the race is 15 total points. A perfect prediction is equal to 50 points (15 for the winner, 5 for each 2-5, 3 for each 6-10). Here's an example to help you understand how the points work...

ACTUAL Top-10 finish

1. #78 Martin Truex Jr.
2. #18 Kyle Busch
3. #4 Kevin Harvick
4. #2 Brad Keselowski
5. #9 Chase Elliott
6. #11 Denny Hamlin
7. #20 Erik Jones
8. #42 Kyle Larson
9. #12 Ryan Blaney
10. #48 Jimmie Johnson

YOUR Top-10 Prediction

1. #78 Martin Truex Jr. - 15 points for predicting the winner
2. #4 Kevin Harvick - 4 points for correctly being in the Top-5
3. #12 Ryan Blaney - 2 points for correctly being in the Top-10
4. #1 Jamie McMurray - 0 points, did not finish in the Top-10
5. #9 Chase Elliott - 5 points, 4 for being in Top-5, bonus point for 5th exactly
6. Busch - 0 points for not specifying driver with duplicate name
7. #78 Martin Truex Jr. - 0 points for repeating driver name
8. #42 Kyle Larson - 3 points, 2 for being in Top-10, bonus point for 8th exactly
9. #2 Brad Keselowski - 2 points for correctly being in the Top-10
10. #11 Denny Hamlin - 2 points for correctly being in the Top-10

15 + 4 + 2 + 0 + 5 + 0 + 0 + 3 + 2 + 2 = 33 points, a prediction that would contend to win most races.

Your prediction is then compared to the rest of your competitors. You win a race by having the highest scoring prediction. If there is a tie in score, whoever picked the higher finishing driver to win the race gets the tie. In the above example, if Player A picked Kyle Busch to win and Player B picked Kevin Harvick, Player A would win the tie since Kyle Busch finished 2nd and Harvick finished 3rd. If the tied players picked the same driver to win, it will go down to who they picked to finish 2nd, and so on, until the tie is broken.

For stage results, drivers that did not finish in the Top-10 are treated in tiebreakers as if they are the same driver. Meaning if both players picked a driver to win that did not finish in the Top-10 in the stage, then it will go down to who they picked to finish 2nd, and so on, until the tie is broken. In the event the entire Top-10 has been sorted through and the tie is not broken, the prediction posted earlier will get the tie.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

V. STAGES

The NASCAR races are split into three stages; Stage 1, Stage 2, and the Final Stage. Points are given at the end of each stage. Your Top-10 prediction will be scored at the end of Stage 1, but you will not receive the points your prediction scores with the above method. Instead, your prediction will be ranked based on that score compared to your competitors. The "winning" prediction at the end of Stage 1 will receive 10 points and 1 playoff point. 2nd place will receive 9 points and down to 1 point for 10th. This process is repeated for Stage 2.

The Final Stage is the one that matters. This is when you will receive the points your prediction scores based on our scoring system. Now here is where we will slightly deviate from the actual NASCAR format. At the finish of the race, we will once again hand out points for the Top-10 finishers just like we did at the end of each stage in addition to their prediction score, with 5 playoff points to the winner.

So using the earlier example once more, if Player A scored 33 points and was tied with Player B for the win, and let's say Player A wins the tiebreaker, Player A then receives 43 points total along with 5 playoff points while Player B gets 42 points. By doing these stage bonuses at the end of the Final Stage, we ensure that our Top-10 finishers will score more points than everyone who finished below them. Ties are broken for all players but bonus points are not given to break ties further for players outside of the Top-10.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VI. DUELS

Just like last year, the Duels before the Daytona 500 will be worth points. Similar to the end of the stages, 1st place will receive 10 points, 2nd gets 9, down to 1 point for 10th. Playoff points are not awarded for winning a Duel. In the past, you would place a prediction for each Duel race. Now, to further reflect NASCAR, you will only be able to participate in ONE Duel.

When posting your prediction, you must choose which Duel you would like to play in and you must decide before the first Duel begins. Meaning no matter which Duel you decide to place predictions for, all predictions are due by the green flag of the first Duel. Due to there being multiple ways to post predictions (Section II), it will be nearly impossible and quite a hassle for you to see how all your competitors decided. You are able to change your decision as many times as you would like, but again, you must have your decision finalized by the green flag of the FIRST Duel.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VII. CUP PLAYOFF

Just like in real NASCAR, you win and you're in the Playoff. There are 16 Playoff competitors in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. By winning the race, as mentioned earlier, you earn 5 playoff points, and 1 for each stage win. Playoff points, while earned throughout the regular season, are not added to your point total until the Playoffs if you make it into the Playoffs.

There is also a Regular Season Champion. If you finish the regular season 1st in points, you are guaranteed a spot in the Playoffs even if you have not won a race. By being the Regular Season Champion, you also earn 15 playoff points, 2nd in regular season points earns 10 playoff points, 3rd gets 8, 4th gets 7, all the way down to 10th who gets 1. Again, these playoff points are only for if you are in the Playoff.

For the Cup Series, there are 26 races in the regular season beginning at Daytona and ending at Indianapolis. If you are in the Top-30 in points and you won a race, or you are the Regular Season Champion, then you are in the Playoff. Any remaining spots are filled by the players highest in points. If there are more than 16 winners eligible, then the players with only 1 win and with the least amount of points are left out. Number of starts is the first tiebreaker in points followed by playoff points, average finish, and then most recent finish.

Once the regular season is over and the 16 Playoff players are determined, their points are then reset to 2000 points each. Now here is where the playoff points are added to their total. Once the points are reset, the Round of 16 begins at Las Vegas and then goes to Richmond and the Charlotte Roval. During this time, all non-playoff players continue to play as well. Playoff points continue to be handed out to stage and race winners but they are not added to point totals until the next reset, if you advance. If you win one of the 3 races, you automatically advance unless you are absent for one of the races.

After the Charlotte Roval, the bottom 4 players are eliminated from the Playoff (but keep playing in the game!), and the 12 remaining players are reset to 3000 points plus all the playoff points they've accumulated throughout the entire season. The Round of 12 continues just like the Round of 16. Three races; Dover, Talladega, and Kansas. You win, you advance. After Kansas, the bottom 4 are eliminated and their points revert back to 2000 plus the points they earned in the 6 playoff races so far, putting them on the same level with the players eliminated the previous round.

Then the 8 remaining Playoff contenders are reset to 4000 points plus the playoff points they earned all the way up to that point. Once more, three races; Martinsville, Texas, and Phoenix. You win, you advanced. The bottom 4 are eliminated and their points are reverted back just like the others. This means that if you are eliminated, even after the first round, you may finish as high up as 5th in the final point standings.

The final Championship 4 are then reset to 5000 points each. This is the only time where playoff points will not carry over. There will be stages at Homestead-Miami, but the Championship 4 do not receive points from the stages. Only the highest scoring prediction based on our scoring formula (Section IV) will be crowned 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Champion.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VIII. XFINITY AND TRUCK PLAYOFF

The Xfinity and Camping World Truck Series Playoffs will be slightly modified compared to the Cup Series. The Xfinity Series regular season is 26 races beginning at Daytona and ending at Las Vegas, and there are 12 players in the Playoffs. If you are in the Top-20 in points and you won a race, or you are the Regular Season Champion, then you are in the Playoff. The Playoffs work the same as in the Cup Series, 4 are eliminated each round starting with the Round of 12.

The Camping World Truck Series regular season is 16 races beginning at Daytona and ending at Bristol, and there are 8 players in the Playoffs. If you are in the Top-20 in points and you won a race, or you are the Regular Season Champion, then you are in the Playoff. The Playoff operates the same as the Xfinity Series except 2 players are eliminated each round instead of 4.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IX. GRAND SLAM

The Fantasy NASCAR Grand Slam is a group of 4 prestigious races that are upgraded in their playoff point payout. Winning a stage in a Grand Slam race gives you 2 playoff points instead of one. Winning a Grand Slam race gives you 6 playoff points instead of 5. This means that there are 3 extra playoff points up for grabs during these races.

The Grand Slam races for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series are:

1 - Daytona
13 - Charlotte (with 1 extra stage)
25 - Darlington
26 - Indianapolis

The Grand Slam races for the NASCAR Xfinity Series are:

1 - Daytona
14 - Iowa
23 - Road America
26 - Las Vegas

The Grand Slam races for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series are:

1 - Daytona
10 - Gateway
13 - Eldora
16 - Bristol

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

X. POLE AWARDS

At the beginning of each race, your predictions are scored based on the qualifying results for that race. The highest scoring prediction earns the Pole Award. Obviously, the qualifying results will already be known when most people are posting their predictions for the race. Some have simply had their Top-10 prediction match the qualifying results and intentionally lock up the Pole. This is allowed within the rules as the only benefit of winning the Pole is a playing spot in next year's Clash. The finish of the race and the chase for the Playoff is all based on the finishes of the races, not qualifying.
