It is that time of year once again. The 4th annual SRL Winter Showdown at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, CA February 1-3rd the West Coast's biggest Super Late Model race will commence. This year they have made it 300 laps.

Last Year Derek Thorn beat out Eric Jones and Kyle Busch and led wire to wire for his first Showdown victory at his home track. He looks to make it back to back and to replicate the same feat Bubba Pollard did the first two years of the Showdown.

$400,000 in prize money and $30,000 to win.

Some of the early notable entries:

Kyle Busch
Daniel Hemric
Derek Thorn
Eddie McKean
Eric Schmidt
Bobby Hodges
Jeremy Doss
Dominic Ursetta
Mason Mingus
Kayla Eshleman
Jeff Bischofberger
Matt Wendt
Brandon White
Tyler Tanner
Bubba Pollard
Nick Joanides
Craig Raudman

Looks like there are well over 50 entrants for this race. They will qualify today and lock in the top 30 and then have a LCQ tomorrow. $30,000 to win and $3,000 to start. Unfortunately, I will not make it to the track this weekend. Son was sick last week and missed his Hockey game and we wont let him miss another.

I just saw online that KyBu's people would not issue an interview to a "reporter/blogger" because he was not official.......

Not sure how to feel about that really. I'm sure the reasoning makes sense, but not a great way to give back if you ask me.

Tickets for a reserved seat, one hour Q&A, a picture, and an autograph with Kyle Bush are 195.00. The same reserved seats, without the extras are 30.00. I am going with a friend. It should be a good show with that many cars.

I went last year, it was bitterly cold, weather is going to be great this year. The KB ticket deal is a rip off. The track is a great facility. It is basically the answer to the Mesa Marin tear down. Last year it was a 1 groove race track. Guys could catfish the turns and nobody could pass. Hopefully this year is better.

Preston Peltier was fastest on Thursday night. KB was like 20th.

Today so far KB is second fast, Daniel Hemric is 7th, Ty Majeski is 16th, Peltier is 29th

Yes he did, but it wasn't a runaway. The only guy that might have caught him blew a tire with about 75 laps to go. I have to give credit to all the drivers, there were good battles going on everywhere. Great weather, great track. There were two and a half lanes to run in. The top half of the top groove was iffy, but some guys made passes anyway. A local kid, Buddy Shepherd, took second, with Daniel Hemric third.

KDB..what a guy, a legend in his own mind. Called the guy idiot? That is the pot calling the kettle black.

Busch powered away from the field on the restarts and was way in front when the final caution flew on lap 294 when Mason Mingus his the turn three wall.

“As soon as I saw the kid who had a flat going down the backstretch, I’m like slow down, slow down, slow down, make it to pit road. And he just drove on right in there knowing it was flat, like you idiot.

So it caused a caution for the end of the race. Something for the fans, I guess. Instead of being ahead by three seconds we have another restart but it all was good for us.”

The guy did slow down, just barely hit the wall. The flagman didn't even see him, he was busy looking for the white and checkered flags. The cars were spread out, and going by him so fast, he had to sit at the top of turn 3 for a lap and a half, because he couldn't get to pit road. After throwing the caution, he was able to drive to the pits on his own. From what I saw the only idiot is the guy that complained about it.
