Someone driving a pickup truck that was towing a trailer loaded with five 50-gallon tanks managed to steal 250 gallons of gasoline from a West Andew Johnson Highway convenience store.
That is according to a report filed by Sheriff's Sgt. Terry Rader on Monday night.
The report said the gasoline theft took place at the Quick Stop market at the 14044 West Andrew Johnson Highway.
The theft was carried out by a "young white male" who pulled the truck and trailer to a stop at the store's gasoline pumps, opened the truck's hood and appeared to work on the vehicle for some time.
At some point during the incident, the report said, the suspect entered the store, made a purchase and went back to the truck before driving away.
Only after the truck left did the clerk on duty realize that 250 gallons of gasoline, valued at more than $900, had been taken.
The report speculated that the suspect had used some type of "electronic device" to activate the gasoline pumps.
An investigation is continuing.
