45 cars entered at Bristol

No #21 car. Only 45 cars entered for the event, which is bad because Bristol, Richmond and Martinsville are the best chances for a go-it-alone team to win a race.

Seeing as it's doubtful the 44, 8 and 28 will run the rest of the schedule, it looks like we might not have to worry about the top 35 rule anymore.

If we lose those 3 we can put the top 42 rule in place and save the owners lots of money by not having to have practice and time in.:sarcasm:

I hate to hijack a good thread... What if only thirty cars showed up at Martinsville or Bristol? Would that destroy the race? The reason I ask is because I typically only see twenty or so cars that are competitive enough to win the race, sometimes only ten. And then there are ten or so just getting in the way. Hence the "lucky dog".

Seriously, would the racing get better if there were fewer cars or would the sport suffer?

as long as it pays to start there will be field fillers. nascar isn't going to lower the number of starters.

I think in the long run it would hurt our sport. I hear what you're saying about 20 being able to win, but sometimes 'better' cars get a lap down too. Remember when (I'm going to show my age) you'd go to the local track and watch 10 or so cars going 10-50 laps? Some times they got sooo strung out and didn't see any passing or saw the wrecks when they did pass?

I think that we have to protect the idea of 40 or more cars. Indy races in the 80's used to have only 7-12 cars finish a race, and it was boring.

So, how can we as fans, or fanatics, protect the idea? I go to my local short tracks pretty routinely and really enjoy the racing. No one gets in unless they race in. Sometimes the best cars go home. Would that be a bad thing if NASCAR did away with the top 35 or even changed it to the top 12?

I know why NASCAR does it but I am not sure I agree with it.

Last year I went to eight cup races and enjoyed all of them. (Except the Brickyard tire test) :sarcasm:

I am just saying that TV only shows the top ten or so cars. If you are not at the track I am not sure you would even know if there were only thirty cars running...

If I went to Indy, I'd have pitchforks waiting for a refund. That was a ****ty pathetic excuse for a "race."

TV doesn't show the best on-track action.

Do yourself a favor though, and go to Salem Speedway on April 4th for the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200. You'll enjoy it.;) While at it, get some pictures and video from the race for me since ARCA won't televise the event.

 I did not reniew my tickets for the Brickyard this year. I had not missed a race there since the first.

I will be at Salem for that very race. I also hit Winchester, Angola and Baer field on a routine basis.

The super modifieds kinda do it for me and they will be back at Angola this summer.;)

ORP's the real stock car track in Indianapolis :beerbang:

Salem's an awesome track - lots of banking. Looks a lot like Bristol.

It's too bad ARCA doesn't have it televised.

I'll be lucky if I even make it to New Jersey. Money's tight - and I've just signed a deal to cover the races at the local dirt track so it's gonna be tough to get to any race.

Winchester is exactly how Bristol used to be before they repaved Bristol. I agree, Salem is awesome!

I wish you well with our tough economy.

I have no problem with 43 cars running only thing i wish is that they made a minimum qualifying speed. If you cant qualify withing so much of the leader you dont deserve to race. As i said 43 is good number but if theres not 43 theres no need to throw cars together just to start a race, 35 cars are there to race start 35, if 43 are there than 43.
