Travis Pastrana to take $5M challengeEmailPrintComments26Associated Press
INDIANAPOLIS -- Travis Pastrana sees no limits to his possible accomplishments. He's getting ready to make his NASCAR Nationwide debut next week in Indianapolis, and on Thursday Pastrana said he also intends to take IndyCar's $5 million challenge.

Pastrana has captured 16 gold medals in the X Games and has won multiple supercross, motocross and American rally championships. On July 15, Pastrana finished 22nd in his debut in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East at Loudon, N.H.

Now he has bigger plans.

After the July 30 Nationwide race, Pastrana wants to compete in IndyCar's season-ending event at Las Vegas. IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard has offered $5 million to any driver from another series who can win the Oct. 16 race. It's a challenge Pastrana could not pass up.

That's rediculous. First, he isn't even considered a NW series driver yet, and a few starts wont change that. Second, who's going to put him in a $1 million Indycar? There are only a couple of NASCAR drivers in position to try this after the Oct 15th race at Charolette, Tony and Juan, and they may be in the middle of the chase.

Since their team owners own Indy teams and could let them practice, Kurt, Kez and Jamie could, at some point, give it a try. I think there is a VERY good reason the Indy series opted for a race right in the middle of the chase. This started out as a $20 million Coca-Cola 600, Indy 500 challenge. Then Tony and Juan jumped up, and the promoter got cold feet because they were scared someone would figure out a way to fit them in the cars. ;)

he's got more eperience in nw than he does indycar, which is none to my knowledge.

The open wheelers are pretty chaffed because none of their drivers can handle stockcars. This may be their big chance to point fingers and laugh at the 'nascar' driver who couldn't handle an Indycar.

but here's one way to think of it. Pastrana is a bike guy. He's used to light, nimble things. A stock car is bulky and slow. You never know what he can do in a flying wing...

He'll have to get past qualifying first, which I doubt he'll be able to do .
Oh wait....they don't have enough cars already as it is :D
Pastrana may not be eligible to compete....> https://hardcards.indycar.com/Resou...Series_Rule_Book_FINAL_ UNFORMATTED_CLEAN.pdf
Rule book says they want "...a current resume containing a complete history of the applicant's competition to date and demonstrating the applicant's ability to properly handle the car..."

Motocross/SupercrossPastrana has won two motocross racing championships: the 2000 A.M.A. 125cc National championship, the 2001 125cc East Coast Supercross Championship, and the 125cc Rose Creek Invitational. Pastrana also raced in the 2000 MX des Nations. He moved up to the 250cc class in 2002. His stand-up style, ability to spot jump combinations and great speed through the whoops make him easy to spot on the track. Although Pastrana has never won a 250cc race, his kindness to the fans and love of the sport still makes him one of the most popular riders of all time. Pastrana has always raced and competed on Suzuki motorcycles, and remains fiercely loyal to the brand. He races with Team Cernic's Suzuki. All of his motorcycles and rally cars carry the number 199. He even sponsors a Monster Jam truck called Pastrana 199, and Nitro Circus after the TV show on MTV.

[edit] Team Puerto RicoRobert Pastrana, Travis' father, is a native Puerto Rican, which made Travis directly eligible to represent Puerto Rico in international competition.[5] On February 27, 2008, the Asociación de Motociclismo de Puerto Rico (Motorcycling Association of Puerto Rico) provided him with a license to represent the island, which was accepted by the Unión LatinoAmericana de Motociclismo, the relevant sanctioning body in Latin America.[5][6] His debut with the team took place on March 15, 2008. Here he qualified to the finals by defeating Erick Vallejo of Mexico. In the finals he finished third, behind local Costa Rican racer Roberto Castro and Vallejo.[6]

That does not make him eligible to drive an IRL car.

"X Games star and noted stuntman Travis Pastrana said Wednesday he has agreed to pursue IndyCar's $5 million bonus as part of the season-ending race Oct. 16 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

For now, the agreement includes only a test at a time and location to be determined..."

well i been hearing rumbling that Redbull may do a one off indycar event and sponsor both him and possibly Kasey Kahne if he doesnt make the chase. Red Bull has the money believe me they can buy a couple cars off of just about anyones fleet.

Ahhh, I didn't think of that. That's probably the most likely scenario. Seemed strange that Pastrana is trying to get into NASCAR while his bosses are trying to get out.

Nascars & Indy Cars are both very fast...

It was stated that stock cars are bulky and slow. DJ Rossi responded by saying that 180 or 190 mph is not slow and that both Nascar and Indy car are fast.

Where is the problem with what he said...am I missing something or has he become the new board whipping post?

I gotta go with Rossie on this. Just because Indy cars are faster, it doesn't mean stock cars are slow by any measure. Put an Indy car in a NASCAR race and it wouldn't survive the first side by side start. Different cars for different racing.

IF Pastrana gets an IRL ride for the event, my bet is he'll be in the fence before the event is over.

Agree, & Early I say...:beerbang:

I was making fun of the fact he was pointing out the obvious. Again.
