50 Most Watched Sports Events (So-Far) in 2014

Surprised the World Cup final was that far up the list. I (literally, no joke) forgot all about the World Cup after USA was eliminated.

NASCAR probably would've snuck in there if it weren't for the Olympics and World Cup making up half of the list, but still a big drop from last year. Last year's Daytona 500 would've been #36 on this list.

The long rain delay hurt this year's Daytona 500 ratings as well. Still, pretty telling though that not a single NASCAR race made the list.

World Cup every four years has a lot to do with it.

Rain delay also hurt it.

.....ball sports are over rated.

The only reason people watch the world cup is to get some clues on who will be nominated for best actor at the Oscars.

What a pathetic 'sport'. Run back and forth, back and forth, taking breaks to act like you've been shot whenever a sneaker comes near you.

I actually watched the World Cup finals and enjoyed it. The wife follows the WC and DVRd it, so I watched it with her.

Honestly her criteria for favorite teams is which team has strongest looking men, or most studs.

Women are so shallow.

I'm a little surprised that the Kentucky Derby got 6 million more viewers than the Daytona 500. The Derby telecast is essentially a 2 hour 58 minute pre-race show with a 2 minute race at the end.

gals.....fashion ! ha!
smi /isc can only dream of derby's 165 k attendance now.

biased yr...w/ oly / wc .
plus wc got univision #'s thrown in.

mentioned "buzz" before.....= 12.3 mill.....nfl draft ! wtf ?

All about hype. NASCAR doesn't get anywhere near the hype that every other event listed did get. The rain delay also hurt.

It's hard to say. This says that the daytime portion of the 500 (1:30 PM ET-2:17 PM ET) still only averaged 10.1 million viewers while the primetime portion (8:25 PM ET-11:23 PM ET) averaged 9.1 million viewers. I think a good number of people just turned towards the Olympics.

Disappointing that NBA made the list! This may be weird coming from a NASCAR fan, but I've never found NBA entertaining. Touch a player, you get a foul. Also, the last "minute" of the game typically lasts 15-20 minutes.

I lean heavily towards the activity with the chick involved but my favorite race of the year is the Tour De France
I've been watching a little bit. I like the Swiss guy. I don't think he's going to win though.

I can't help but think the Tour De France would be a cool car race. Kind of like a cannonball run thing.

Sadly a lot of the top contenders have dropped out but its still been an awesome race

Something that 16 million more people watched than the Daytona 500. That's just counting America.

Must not be very important if I am not interested, nor anyone I know or associate with care about or are interested in, so, it must be useless.o_O
