... the closest finish in NASCAR Winston Cup Series history: Ricky Craven made a bold last turn pass on race leader Kurt Busch to score his second career win in the Carolina Dodge Dealers 400. Craven beat Busch to the line by .001 (less than an inch) to win. Both cars ran into each other - but both drivers were humbled. The 2003 fall race would host the final Labor Day weekend Southern 500 and Terry Labonte would score the final win of his illustrious career.

That was the greatest finish, and neat to see Crave win, and then see Busch go down on conratulate him for it. Hard fought by both guys, beating and bashing, and no hard feelings or pissed off crews or drivers afterwards.

I remember when NASCAR used to have close finishes like that, but now to see it you have to watch an Indy Car race on an oval.
Funny how that's turned around.

That is funny. I was kinda thinking the same thing this weekend when they were showing the top-10 closest indycar finishes on versus.

I must be the odd man out or much older than the rest of you! I remember when races were won by minutes or even when there was only one car on the lead lap and leading by five laps.

Anyway, NEWB here. I just enjoy racing!

Welcome Smoke14, reading this thread I've ben feeling the same, Old...:D

No matter, everybody being on the lead lap with a chance to win is a product of lucky dog racing. My grandpa would roll over in his grave if he heard of letting someone back on the lead lap if he didn't earn it by an on track pass. And I won't tell you in a family friendly environment what he would say about lucky dogs.
:bsflag:

I enjoy a close finish as much as anybody else but if every finish is that close it seems to become the norm and not so special anymore. JMHO

I couldn't agree with you more! It is always exciting to see someone race to get their laps back. The "lucky dog" needs to go away.

I was at Rockingham the year Kyle Petty lapped the field except Rusty Wallace.

Smoke14 --- I'm probably as old, or older than you --- I well remember races being won by laps, not tenths of a second.

Someone told me that TRL is so old>>>>>>>>>

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>She was around when dirt was invented...

My young friend from Raleigh, you aren't that far behind her. As far as I'm concerned, she's a very nice young lady from Texas, ah that's southern Oklahoma. :)

Welcome Smoke14!!! It's nice to have another Smoke fan here! I know my pictures don't show it, but I'm a Smoke fan, too. Every "girl" has to have a "bad boy" to compliment her "good boy." LOL Hope you enjoy yourself here! :)
