... (yesterday), Jimmie Johnson scored his first Winston Cup win at California Speedway.

I watched today a clip when JJ was still in the Busch series and racing at one of the road courses. I'd like to say Watkins Glen, but it could have been Sears point. Anyway, something happened to his car and he went straight through the pebbles and straight into the foam and wall. What a sight and I'm sure that many, such as myself at the time, thought that JJ surely was hurt. Wrong. He got out and jumped on top of the car. At that point, I don't think there were very many people who would even wonder if JJ would become the successful Cup driver that he is today.

Watkins. Before they paved the run-out at turn 1 for the open wheelers.

wow, 2000, didnt realize it was that long ago. That's pre-hans, pre-everything. And to take a head-on hit that hard and hop right out. I want to see an after pic of the car.

What happened with his brother? I thought (Jarit?) was a decent driver himself, but hes 30 and has really done nothing in either NASCAR or ARCA.

Those stands you see behind where Jimmie wrecked is where our seats are. We get to see them mess up at turn 1 and then gain speed going up into the esses. You can't tell in that video, but they're actually red, white and blue. We're in the first section of the red. We just moved up higher for this summer. Now there's temporary stands right in front of where he wrecked which they only put in for NASCAR weekend.
