•#78 Crew Chief fined over infraction: Peter Rondeau, crew chief for the #78 team in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, has been penalized for a rule violation committed last week at Auto Club Speedway. Rondeau has been fined $25,000 for violating sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 20-2.3A (improperly attached weight) of the 2011 NASCAR rule book. The violation occurred during practice on March 25.(NASCAR)(3-30-2011)

Before a 25 grand fine was followed by 25 points off the driver, crew chief and owner.

VADirt is right, they're doing the math to scale down the points penalties.

I remember last year after New Hampshire. They were quick to penalize Clint Bowyer points, for a minor infraction. He would of been right up there too, challenging for the championship.
