Hate to say it, but unless someone dumps Johnson, or he pops an engine, number 5 will be his. It's over.

You make a very good, true and valid point. This is one way for JJ to lose. However, there is another way..someone needs to out perform him. The thing is, I think most other teams and drivers seem to sit around and wait for him to make a mistake. I know it is possible to out perform him, cars did it for 26 weeks this year.

Another point is this has been a feast or famine year for JJ. Let see if he can finish well in the races that he does not win in the chase. That will be another factor this year for sure.

Nobody outperforms Johnson in the Chase. In the 10 races in the Chase, Johnson is simply the best.

I agree with MoMike, he's got it.

I think Johnson does hold back in the regular season. Five bucks says that him and Knaus has a notebook labled "Chase Set Up" and they only use those set ups for The Chase. During the regular season, Johnson does enough to stay in the top 12 and ensure he's in The Chase.

It's also this time that people start to wonder if maybe he's slipping alittle, maybe there's finally a chink in his armor. However, once The Chase rolls around, they crack open that note book and he blows everyone away.

Let's face it, the other teams will need to do two things. 1. Set aside "Chase Only" set ups, and try to get a better relationship between driver and crew chiefs. Johnson and Knaus work together like a well oiled machine. Until they do those two things, Johnson will always dominate The Chase.

Also, # 5, Hel Yes!

Wouldn't be surpised to see tv ratings drop even more given the current scenario, and the possibilty of #5. Ratings at Dover were already lower than last years race, and will likely suffer the same thing for the reast of the season.

And unfortunately, that will prompt little boy blue (brian france) to tinker even farther, thus alienating even more fans and making the chase worse than it already is in continued search of his "game 7" action.

You know, I listen to Coast to Coast AM (the shows about UFOs and the Paranormal, with Art Bell and George Noory), and one night they had a guest on name Brian Tuohy. He wrote "The Fix Is In" and he talks about how officials in sporting events would fix games.

When I first heard about it, I didn't really believe him, but now I am starting to believe him a bit.

What can ya say.....its football season. I find my self changing channels but I usually sit on the football game longer than I will the race.

I agree with this totally. Another Jimmie Johnson Chase = further decline in interest and ratings. I know that I'm witnessing history again and somehow I'm supposed to appreciate that but I find it hard to do so. I'm growing more than tired of seeing this end the same way year after year.

I can't see this being the case. If the powers that be @ NASCAR were putting in 'the fix', Jimmie Johnson would not be their choice. What possible gain could NASCAR see by having Jimmie Johnson win another championship? Absolutely none.

Especially when Jimmy has all those "double secret setups" that he is going to pull out for the chase. He must be well rested too, after coasting through the year, hiding his "double secret setups". :D

I'm sure your exactly right. It makes perfect sense not to win as many races as he could. He sure wouldn't want to get his sponsor's name out there. He also wouldn't want to get all of those bonus points for wining. The money, who wants that? It's all clear now. Save what works for the end. Don't work on improving those 'secret setups' during the season. Then, during the Chase, you put those secret setups under the car and catch everyone by surprise! Brilliant! :sarcasm:

Another question would be "how bad are those FORDS"...I seriously thought they were sandbaggin early in the season..then when they did'nt win their first race till august (points) I said nope they ARE that bad...

It's called sandbagging. :p

Johnson has won 19 races in the Chase since it started, the next closest driver has 6 Chase wins. If anybody is going to beat him, they need to win races.

Its only race 2 of the chase. There are 8 more opportunities to win. Heck, the way Burton is running, you can't count him out. Denny does have a nice lead and has been consistent as of late. I'm not ready to hand it to Johnson.

Well, Johnson has a 6.6 place average finish at Kansas over a 5 year period.
Hamlin has a 19th place average there over a 5 year spread.
I'm ready to hand it to him, and do something constructive with my Sundays for the rest of the year.

What is Burton average finish at Kansas?

Exactly me either, 1 win and everyone is giving the Championship to Johnson again. Why? You can't go on past history, 8 races anything can happen, especially with Dega coming up. So Mike you are basing it on past average finish? Didn't hamlin have a bad avg. finish at Dover and look where he finished on Sinday. Come on!

I'm basing it on the law of averages. last 4 years of chase finishes for Johnson:
2006- 39, 13, 14, 24, 2, 1, 2, 2, 2, 9
2007- 6, 14, 3, 2, 14, 1, 1, 1, 1, 7
2008- 2, 5, 1, 9, 6, 1, 2, 15,1, 15
2009- 4, 1, 9, 1, 1, 2, 6, 38,1, 5
2010- 25, 1,

NH-Dov-Kansas-Dega-Charl-M'ville-Atlan-TMS-Phoen-Homestead.
I just don't see many opportunities for a hiccup with those kinds of numbers.
Don't get me wrong, I just about hate the guy, but it doesn't change anything.
I don't see Johnson letting down much, which isn't the worst part. The worst part is that I don't see anyone else rising to the occasion.
MoMike

If he is in the lead or closed to it after Dega then its all his.

if i were a betting man, which on occasion i am <g>, i'd take the field over jj. past performance is just an indicator of what might happen. way too many variables to say anyone has a lock on the championship yet. jj could fall off a golf cart and break his right leg between here and homestead. ya never know.... <g>

I'm going with Harvick to win, I think he will come on strong, and I think JJ will wreck at a few races and take himself out of the picture. One place being Dega, just my prediction of course.:D

I think Jimmie is going to win # 5, but it won't be easy. I see it finishing out with Jimmie at top, then Hamlin, then Harvick. I do think it'll be a close one and we won't know till the last 2 to 3 races who's going to win the Championship.

I'm going with Harvick for the win. I'd like to see JJ wreck a few times and blow up a few times and be out of the top 10 at Homestead.:beerbang:

Thats the problem though. There needs to be a driver thats going to take it by being better, head to head, not capitalizing on a mistake by Johnsons team, because thats not going to happen.
I don't see a TEAM capable of doing it. A driver? Yes, but not a whole team.
MoMike

Now, if anyone here can envision the driver, and team combination in the entire garage that could be put together to dethrone Johnson, and Chad, who would it be?
MoMike

No, but I can envision another driver taking him out, accidently of course.

Dale Jr. and Tony Eury SR. with Kenseth's pit crew.

You never know. He's was out performed by 5 other drivers leading into this Chase. As strong as he is during these final 10 races it's hard to bet against him but I sure hope someone can knock him off that pedestal. This same story is getting far to old IMO.
