Dale Jr. and Mears to be penalized? NASCAR officials will likely lower the boom on #88-Dale Earnhardt Jr. and #07-Casey Mears for late-race and post-race antics here Saturday night at Phoenix. The two tangled several times late, bringing out the final caution that almost cost Mark Martin the win. Mears: "I didn't mean to get together with Dale Jr. I think he was trying to save fuel and make it to the end without stopping, and I wheel-hopped the car getting into the corner and ended up making contact with him. I guess he was a little bent out of shape about it because he spun me out after the checkered flag."(mikemulhern.net)(4-20-2009)

I thought they said last night on Nascar Now that they would NOT be penalized? NASCAR change its mind? Say it isn't so!!! ;)

NASCAR set a precedent when they didn't penalize Kyle and Carl for having a discussion on the track after a race.

Casey and Jr were still out on the track and no one else was in danger. Casey did bump the back end of the 88 on pit road, but didn't turn him.

I agree. Fines in this case would be petty on the part of Nascar who said at the beginning of the year they would let the drivers be themselves.

I have no problem with this. A couple of unimportant also-rans. Let them settle it themselves.

On the track is one thing. Once the drivers go past the commitment cones this crap has got to stop. There are two many people in the pits for children to be throwing temper tantrums.

Earnhardt, Mears placed on probation for PIR incident
By Official Release

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR announced Tuesday that it has placed Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Casey Mears on probation for the next six races in the Sprint Cup Series, as a result of their on-track incident last Saturday at the conclusion of the race at Phoenix International Raceway.

Earnhardt, driver of the No. 88 car, and Mears, driver of the No. 07 car, both violated Section 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock-car racing; hitting another competitor's car after the race had concluded) of the 2009 NASCAR rule book.

The probation takes effect beginning with this weekend's event at Talladega Superspeedway.

Someone please tell me what "probation" means? Personally I think it is smoke and mirrors.

Probation is Nascars way of saying try to hide your retaliation a little better next time so we don't have to do anything. Has anyone ever violated their probation?:D

not that I know of......Knaus maybe once??

On Monday it was reported that NA$CAR officials announced no penalties, on Tuesday they get probation.

Another fine example of the consistency of NA$CAR.

Probation isn't a penalty?

Well, mabey the source had it wrong. I never saw it on NASCAR.com

Probation is not a penalty. It is a warning that if this happens again, actionwill be taken. Six weeks is not even a slap on the wrist. If Nascar wanted to send a message to their glamour boy who cannot win, they would have made the probation good for the rest of the year.

Kevin Harvick did, and he sat out a race for it.

Another mature, intelligent post from bigdaddy. :sarcasm:

Always quick to criticize, but you do not know caca about Nascar, do you

:XXROFL: :XXROFL:

Yeah, you come in here and bad mouth every driver, but I'm the one who doesn't know anything about NASCAR.

Along with 2 NASCAR Nationwide Series Championships, Junyer has 18 career Sprint Cup victories which is more than most drivers who have competed in NASCAR.

Ooops.. I looked for this thread before I started the other and didn't see it. If you want, delete the other one? Sorry about that.

only problem I see with this is this......... NASCAR is settin a dangerous precedent here. So it is ok to wreck someone after the race, so long as you do it on the track? Don't do it where someone (crew, photographers, fans etc, could be hit......) Well, what happens if driver A spins driver B, and driver B comes after him after the race..... after driver A has started unbucklin...... and driver A spins and hits the wall at say, oh I don't know, a leisurely speed of 70 mph.......... then what??
The way I see it, if you are mad at someone, GO TO HIM....... you as a driver don't have to FIX the racecar, nor will the guy you are MAD at. I love a good fued as good as the next, but if you don't have the *manhood* to FACE the driver you are mad at, then LEAVE HIS CAR ALONE...................
