A Big "What if"

Not really sure which board this should fall on.......here or in the General Chit Chat, so if any mod or Paul feels is needs to move, feel free.:)

My "what if" revolves around the general feeling among us NASCAR fans that the trend toward parity sort of ruins the competition (I sort of fall in that group, myself). So, what if for one race NASCAR suspends all rules regarding parity? Let's make it on a short track so the speeds wouldn't be too awefully excessive, plus a truly dominant car can really show it's stuff!:) No hieght minimum, no cubic inch restriction, no spring rate requirement, even let them put turbochargers (or superchargers) on the engines, fuel injection, traction control, anything to enhance the performance of the cars. All safety equipment, and fuel tank capacity, etc still as they are now. But, if they want to run another tire beside Goodyear like Hoosier or Firestone, let them.......just has to be a proven racing tire.

What do you think? Would it be a good, competitive race with lots of action? Or would a couple, maybe three teams run away with it and win by a lap or more?

I personally think it would be the later.......but, hey, I also think it would one hell of a race to watch too!!

Let's make it a non-points race.:D

wow, now that fires me up, got goose bumps just thinkin about it! i think it sounds great. maybe a cash race, no points:D

Sounds like a hell of an idea,But how mad would everyone be when Jack Roush took the top 4 spots?

Gee, sounds just like another bowtie brigadeer....Jaws.

Afraid your boys wouldn't keep up? :D

Now that would be interesting. Dale Jarrett would bring a UPS truck with rocket booster attached to the back, Marting would put wings on the car (Martin said if he ever won a championship, he'd attach wings to the car for the heck of it), and Robby Gordon would attach a plow to the front of his car.

Well I really wasn't thinking about armored cars to race in.:) Just the stuff NASCAR dictates in an effort to achieve parity. One race with basically everything in place as far as templates and stuff......just lift the restricting stuff like spring rates, hieght minimums, cubic inche maximum, type of tires etc, etc.

I think it would be interesting to what teams could do using innovation and engineering expertise to compete against the others. I'm sure that some teams would far outshine others simply because they have the resources that most don't.....mainly money!:) Pick owners and teams with very deep pockets and you will see them up front.......I would be interested to see of that group who is really out there in front!!:D

TWF. I choose short tracks for the reason I stated......not to be "another bowtie brigadeer". Unrestrict these guys on a track like Daytona, Talladega, Michigan, Atlanta, Texas, even California and they would be running way more than 200 mph.........that is nothing but a prescription for castastrophe!

And about my boys not keeping up......who are my boys?:) Jr, Tony, Jeffie, Martin, Spencer, Busch, and Newman.......think that about covers the field.:)

Trying to catch up on the threads since last night.......where were you? I passed you up briefly on total posts!!:D But now that I'm back from the vet with my dog Cheech and his ingrown toenails I'm frantically trying to catch up!!:(

You ever have a dog that won't let you clip his toenails but will cheerfully let the vet do it? That sucker just loves for me to spend money on him!:(

:p :p :p :p

watch it with the jaws.......BE NICE..........:) :)

I'll bet Evernham could come up with something for this deal.

And the fans would cry bloody murder because of how boring that race would be. Just like they did after the race at NHIS a year or so ago when Jeff Burton lead every lap.
Folks, not that many years ago it was not at all unusual for the leader to be two, three, or even more laps ahead of the second place car. Second place might be that far or further ahead of third, etc. And the attrition rate was quite often as high as 1/2 to 3/4 of the cars entered in an event.
Thus we have NASCAR trying to level the playing field and achieve parity, not only amongst the teams but the manufacturers as well.
Now the cars run in packs, can't pass because of the "aero push", parity has been achieved, the field leveled, and the fans complain about the lack of competition.
This whole thing could get rather confusing, could it not?

Oh so you like Battlebots too? How about "full Metal Challange"?

DEW, I like the idea...for an off week before speedweek or after season's end.

GO FOR IT PEOPLE!!!! Just suspend ALL rules for 1 race...Demolition Derby Time :D

I think this would be great at the beginning, but if these were the rules, it would become pretty expensive. I mean, the team with the most money would be able to make the most exotic car. They'd probably look like something from outer space. The problem today is technology. These guys go after what it best and by using their computers and such, they can find things that nobody would ever figure out. Doing so cost lots of money though and that's why NASCAR is trying to keep it down. If they just open the door to anything, it will be all out war and sooner or later, everyone will quit because of the cost. I think a better rule would be to set a limit on spending and let them do what ever they want as long as they don't go over the limit. That would show some real engineering genius. The shops would surely be closed to everyone then.

Gordon's team would probably be the only team that could afford that chassis.

One more time.:) My idea was not to create a race of the "battlebots" nor to have a demolition derby at 200 mph. The cars appearance would be the same......the car entered would be for all intents and purposes the same car as raced all year long in the Winston Cup. What I'm proposing is all the rules NASCAR imposes on the teams to maintain parity be suspended. Some examples (not a complete list since I was hoping for some added input from many of you): Hieght restrictions......forget the 1/8 inch crap. Let them drop the body to the ground if they so wish. Engine displacement restrictions.......if they want, let put a 500 cubic inch hemi in the cars. Carberators being an option......let them fuel inject them. Let them turbo charge or supercharge the engines......whatever they want. Nitrus oxide even. Tires.....any race proven tire to run (radial or bias belted). Spring rate restrictions.....let them take the things out if they feel it would enhance the performance. Things like that. :)

Same old stuff........different day, pbunch!:) Got back from purse shopping with cutie a bit ago and now trying to catch up on the threads!:D
