I'm guilty of frequently staying in my shell and closing myself off from the outside world, but it's truly amazing what a simple "hello" can do for a person sometimes. You could be somebody's lifeline and not even know it, you could strike up a new friendship that ends up lasting forever, or you could just get a pleasant smile and a "hello" back. Either way, you've got nothing to lose.
