I posted this type of thing a long time ago. RERUN

Who do YOU think are the Gentelmen (or Ladies) In racing.

To me, the Labonte brothers, DJ, Bobby Hamilton, Bill Elliot and more.

On the track... I don't know if there is a true gentleman, but off the track... there is so many to name.

i like terry...but his gentleman status might be questioned by those that listen to scanners. dj had the reputation of being the dirtiest driver on the track when he's next to someone not too long ago. and hamilton? i can't agree with that.

i've never really heard much bad about bobby labonte, and, language aside, i think terry is right up there if not higher.

bill elliott seemed to be the most gentlemanly...he had to be REALLY riled up to spout an ill word in someone's direction, and i don't know of a time when he was off the mark.

how about ryan newman? he made some stupid looking mistakes when he was learning how to drive stock cars, but he seems pretty classy about putting the blame squarely on his own shoulders...like when he "ran out of talent" on pit road a few weeks ago. i haven't heard anything bad about him.

kenseth almost qualifies, but his run-in with harvick is a recent blemish...but in matt's defense, even though i don't totally blame kevin for getting into matt at pocono, harvick does seem to be able to bring out the worst in other drivers.

...and of course, there's 'gentleman' jimmy spencer...oh, wait, that's "gentlemen, and jimmy spencer...":p

and mark martin should be included, i think...

I'd have to say Mark Martin, Bill Elliot, Terry and Bobby Labonte, in that order. Mark can sometimes whine a little in an enterview, but his on track actions, IMO, deserve class status. Bill always has seemed to me to be a class driver and real level headed. The Labontes also come across as class acts on the track and off.

Cuss words aside, I mean ON THE TRACK and TV interviews.

Ned Jarret was one CLASS ACT on the track, and I love him in the booth! It seems to run in the family!

Well Kasey could have just laid into Tony and all he said is what NASCAR would want. He races clean on the track. I'd feel safer around him than a lot of vets.

as for Bobby Hamilton being an "on the track Gentleman"? I have to disagree, the whole "wreck Brendand Gaughan after the race is over" thing last year was pretty BS. I have a hard time with something like that, I know Bill Elliot was always a good guy...what about Kyle Petty, sure, he isn't running up front, but I know that I'm not the only one who feels sad when I see a motor blow on the 45 car?

Amen brother

On the track, Mark Martin, Kyle Petty, Ken Schrader, the brothers Labonte, the brothers Burton, and yes, Elliott Sadler meet my criteria.

Off track, most of these guys do tremendous things routinely. Kyle's work on the camp is extraordinary, and he gets a ton of well-deserved press for it. Good for him. But most if not all these guys are quite generous away from the track.

Alan Kulwicki, God rest his soul, may have been one of the drivers who exemplified gentlemanly competition better than anyone I ever watched. Neil Bonnet was also quite professional about his racing business (despite all that time spent hanging around Earnhardt).

Bobby lit up the airwaves with a cpl of f-bangers and a GD at Chicagoland this past Sunday when himself and Fatback were all out of ideas on how to make the car better. :EEEEK:

I agree with most of the veteran drivers listed...

Not to toot Jimmie Johnson's horn too much, but I think he has a genuine respect for the sport, it's history and the drivers that made Nascar what it is today (both retired and active drivers)....something a lot of the younger drivers seem to skip over.
