A.J. drove the JTG Daugherty #47 car to a 19th place finish in his first of five races. The driver he replaced, Bobby Labonte, finished last. For now, it looks like the switch is working out for JTG, top 20 finishes are a step up. The 47 made it inside the top 20 only twice in 14 races with Labonte at the wheel.

Keep in mind a lot of top drivers finished towards the back, and if it was a more normal race than he would probably get somewhere between 25th-30th.

yeah that is true. I think they are hoping for a better finish at Sonoma for sure. Labonte had a 24th and a 38th at Sonoma with his two starts at JTG. A.J. has a much better average than that, but it was with Petty and Penske.

AJ is also pretty good on road courses as well.

fickle public, the worm turns quickly, before the race at Michigan, it was a bad deal replacing Bobby who drove the Finch car to a good spot qualifying, only to spin out all by himself when the spotlight was turned on him. I wonder if it will shift back if A.J. Blows it? Stay tuned to "as the car turns".

I am still going to see what happens. Yesterday's race was a difficult one to judge. A lot of bad drivers/teams finished towards the top by the end of it. If Bobby hadnt spun out I think he could have driven the 51 to a top 10.

But he did spin though. Bobby choked. I hear ya on the wait and see. yeah bunch of better cars were knocked out. But A.J. didn't spin, and he finished the race. Great drama. I feel bad for Labonte as bad as I can for somebody who has already won 1.7 million this year.

A.J. certainly had a good finish for the #47 - he's managed to pretty much get the most out of the equipment at two different mediocre one-car organizations this season.

Bobby was faster than usual all weekend leading up to the race though. If he doesn't get hit by Gordon he probably misses everything and continues on, maybe to a decent finish. Them's the breaks.

True, he wasn't going to hit anything until Gordon came along, I guess you could say. Gordon said Labonte was in a slow spin and he couldn't tell which way he was going to go. It sounded to me that Gordon didn't like the way he spun out..no style points I guess.:) At any rate, I think right now anyway that the 47 team thinks they made a good choice with A.J.

Just one race. I think Dinger is currently better, but still premature for a composited's evaluations imo.
This. Anything can happen in a single race. It's way too early to be trying to call this thing one way or another.

AJ finished ahead of Johnson, Gordon, and Kurt Busch too. One race doesn't prove AJ a better driver than a combined eleven championships. I do think AJ is at least as good a driver as Bobby at this stage in their careers, but one race ain't nothin'.

Aj ran well. That team made good adjustments as well because they were running in the high 20's to low 30's and at one point were a lap down. They persevered and had some thing s go their way with some of the better teams wrecking and blowing tires, but its a top 20 no matter how you look at it.

Bobby was running in the top 15 last year at Sonoma before he was dumped in turn 7 late in the race.

And were beat by a girl;)

yaaaa, another woman hater

Its science that a man's brain is bigger than a woman's. Based on that we are smarter. We excell at all major sports that matter. We throw harder....and over hand for that matter. We hit balls further, we run faster, punch harder.....We are just better.

haha
