Cup Team Offers Patrick A Ride?
The story of (Danica) Patrick and NASCAR erupted last weekend, when a comment by Patrick’s father, T.J. Patrick, at Chicagoland Speedway was interpreted as a possible move by his daughter from the IRL to Nextel Cup. Danica Patrick acknowledged Friday that financial numbers have been discussed with a Nextel Cup team, but declined to say which one. “I haven‘t seen an offer, but I‘ve heard about one,” she said. When asked which team made the offer, she said, “I‘m definitely not at liberty to say.” Then, when asked if any team in the IRL would be able to match a top-level NASCAR bid, Patrick said, “I doubt it.”

Meanwhile, IRL team owner Michael Andretti indicated he might - given the right circumstances - be interested in hiring Patrick, but echoed her sentiment that not many open-wheel teams are able to generate the sponsorship money to pay multi-million dollar retainers. “I like Danica,” Andretti said. “I’ve always been a fan of hers. I think she can win races. A lot of times she’s the best one of the weekend on her team. I think she can get the job done, given the right situation. Do I like her? Yes. Would I be interested? Probably.” Two of Andretti Green Racing’s drivers - Dario Franchitti and Bryan Herta - will be at the end of their contracts at season‘s end, and neither has re-signed with the team. AGR’s two other drivers, Tony Kanaan and Marco Andretti, are signed to long-term deals. Patrick’s contract with Rahal Letterman Racing concludes this season.

Andretti said open-wheel racing needs a draw like Patrick, and alluded to a possible end to the split between the IRL and Champ Car as hope that NASCAR money doesn’t pull her away. “I hope she doesn‘t leave,” Andretti said. “(NASCAR) has a lot more money to play with, and that’s why we have to get this series better. Hopefully, with a lot of stuff that’s going on, it will get better so we can afford to be able to pay what we used to pay. I’d love to see (open-wheel) drivers get paid what we used to.”

While Patrick’s marketability is the primary attraction for Cup team owners, it’s also considered to be an asset in the effort to keep her in the IRL, where she has been able to pursue individual endorsements. In NASCAR, it’s likely that she’d trade the endorsement money for a larger retainer.(Speed)

yup, shes going with IRL, nascar was just a ploy i bet.. she should get big money when she shows she deserves it.. not just because she wants it..

i think that she will stay in IRL but if she came to NASCAR the media frezy would be crazy. NASCAR should try to make a pitch to her since it has been proven that NASCAR is losing some of it glory. a womer driver might revive the sport. i know that there are women drivers out there, but someone with her credentials would be good for the sport given that she has never won a race, but u have seen how much the IRL has got attention because of danica and maybe it would be a good thing for the sport

All sponsers want a WINNER! So far she is NOT a winner..
Why would a team risk the cost for a non winner that could be spent on a proven winner?

One answer that was given, she was marketable.

And the sad thing is ...... they're already doing it with the male drivers. How much air time does ol' Bodine get compared to the young, coiffed drivers?

remember when it was all about who crossed that line first? Not any more. Marketing wins another round.

Like Shawna Robinson, I'm sure she'd fit right in with the "good ole boys".

Nascar is losing some of its' glory? I seriously doubt that, if anything NASCARs' popularity is increasing. It is second , i believe , only to the NFL as the most watched sport. The IRL needs Danica more than Nascar needs the media circus that would follow her to every track. She can't take the pressure that Nascar would throw at her, at best if she made the move at this stage in her career she wouldn't last more than a couple of years. Nascar is not the right move for Danica at this stage of her life IMO. :)

Wow...if Danica came to NASCAR, would people accuse her fans for throwing stuff on the track and being the "golden girl"? All the camera time would be on her and she would be on the cover of the TV Guide every week? Then when she won a race, its was because she got "the call?"

Imagine this.......they are racing at Talladega. She is running 10th and gets a little loose, causing a 30 car wreck. Is it a "racing incident" or "that time of the month incident?"
