IF.......... I have your attention...............please follow through and read this.

DONATE TO THE AMERICAN RED CROSS or UNITED WAY.

We are in the very beginning of the worse natural disaster this nation has ever faced. It has taken more lives than any other. The total death toll is unknown and might never be known.

When you sit at the dinner table tonight, think of the peope who have nothing to eat and have had nothing to eat for four days. Try to imagine the loss these people feel. The frustration of having nothing, absolutely nothing other than the clothes on thier backs. Grown family men unable to feed thier families. Frustration !!!!! Total frustration.

We can help. The hurricane Katrina disaster is a natural disaster affecting jobs, personal belongings, memories, lives, living accomodations and homes, livelihoods, businesses and the effect will reach into every part of the globe.

Now is not the time to be concerned or complain about the cost of a gallon of gas or the availability, THINK............. about the people who have NOTHING and wish their biggest worry was the cost of a gallon of gas.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, donate your pennies and dollars to the American Red Cross or United Way. Show the world that NASCAR fans can make a difference !!!!!!! Make your donations to the American Red Cross or United Way !!!!!!! DO IT TODAY. They take credit cards.
Thank you for reading this.

Absolutely help all you can, but I hate to say this, right now the Red Cross seems to be spending millions just for TV ads. How is that helping anyone? And remember the scandal after 9/11? We don't need that again. Takes a lot of donations to pay the huge salaries for the top people.

And it takes a lot of dollars to pay for all the big shots to constantly take helicopter rides over the disaster area and appear on TV.

By all means, donates all you can, but think about how much of your dollars are ending up where they do most good.

Sorry.

No question there were inequities within the framework of the American Red Cross four years ago. However, for someone to make a negative post while relying on incidents and allegations of four years prior, question expenditures and salaries without offering updated information and fact, is irresponsible.

Since 9/11, the American Red Cross has made changes through appropriate corrections and additional safety measures being implemented to safeguard and increase the integrity of the organization.

As of today, September 02, 2005, few other charities serving the number of people and magnitude of disasters as does the American Red Cross, are rated as highly by governmental and independent grading organizations. A major turn-around.

The American Red Cross spends 91.4 % of the monies donated for relief !!!! The remaining 8.6% of the monies is used for salaries, advertising etc..
Very few organizations anywhere in the U.S. are as efficient in actual monies dedicated to providing relief compared to the 8.6% used for salaries, advertising, etc, while having the organization and ability to perform as quickly and efficiently as the American Red Cross in times of disaster and need.

It would be worthy of critics to check out recent information rather than four year old allegations before attempting to denigrate the improved organization of the American Red Cross.

PLEASE,, PLEASE, make your contributions to the American Red Cross, United Way or Salvation Army. These charities are geared to assist and offer aid in a disaster of this magnitude.

Lack of donations right now is not what the problem is. No help for people for five days. That's the problem.

For a country to spend billions in far away lands and not being able to respond to disasters right in their own backyard, that's the tragedy.

How many donations of how many people would it take just to pay for the president's trip today? DC to Mobile with a 747 loaded with 'suits' is not exactly cheap.

Sorry. Just had to say this. Asking for money to rebuild, yes. But there are more immediate needs.

Bumpzter, if you're angry with the President, time delays in offering aid, cost to fly the 747, challenge the responsible organization. Write a nasty letter to the president and your congressman or woman.
But do not single out and challenge the American Red Cross for something that reportedly took place four years ago.
And yes, donations are a problem. This isn't a 9/11 tragedy that will be a memory in two years. 9/11 is serious and not to be taken lightly, but the number of people it affected at the time, and continues to affect today will be small by comparison when this disaster is evaluated.
This is a life changing event of unknown proportions affecting millions and millions of people all over the world and with ramifications to come for ten or possibly even twenty or more years.
Monies are needed today, tomorrow and the day after that.
Response time seems slow but how do you deliver truck loads of food and water when there are no roads and there are no bridges ?????
How do assist people who shoot at you out of frustration????
How do you get people to dry ground when you don't know where to put them, supply them with necessities and sanitary services after getting them there ???

Several areas have been getting relief and New Orleans waits. There must be logistical reasons or there would be no relief anywhere.

Mad ?? Understandable. So am I. For reasons I do not wish to discuss here.
But none of my frustrations are the fault of the American Red Cross and neither should yours. The Red Cross is trying to help.

I never said that, Whizzer. Never would. All I was trying to say is that whenever there's a great need, like now, the first thing everyone says: 'Give to the Red Cross'. And that includes President. He did in his first speech.

And I stand behind the statement that right now people can give till they bleed and it won't make a bit of difference to what happens right now. And right now, and the last 4 days, is when they need help. Shame on the people in charge.

The major had it right.

I'm not a spokesperson for any charity. But there are many others besides the Red Cross.

Thank you Whizzer for posting my thoughts and feeings so accurately.
I had "words" with my long time ex when he sent pictures of some damn uprooted trees in Florida and absolutely no mention was made of the true scope of the loss of life, property, dignity, and so much more.
Some have an almost cavilear (sp) attitude and others are angry. We do NOT need to dwell on the past, but look to the future.
I have donated as much as I can afford to the Red Cross as well as offered my home as a refuge to those who are in need (& that includes pets).
I am very disappointed in our so called Allies and many politicians, but I will continue to be me and offer what I can!
God Bless ALL who help, even in the smallest way!

Nascar Fans CAN make a difference

There are enough Nascar fans to make a huge difference. Just do what you can as I have. I would like to know what Nascar has given. Nascar is a big business that got huge tax breaks this year...what has Nascar given????? I get so tired of big business and "stars" with gobs of money asking folks to give, and I don't read anywhere what they themselves have given. I know individual drivers are being generous.....has Nascar itself given anything?

Guess I missed it...I see where Nascar has teamed up with the Red Cross to ask for money.....I don't see anywhere where it says Nascar has donated x number of dollars..

Great post Whizzer. I know my parents have donated and I have given my allowance for 1 month to the American Red Cross. They are working very hard to bring the life back to the people from Louisiana and any amount can help.

You must realise that THEY STILL NEED HELP! The American Red Cross helps people all around the Globe, and the disasters in 2005 have drained the coffers.
Remember, your donation IS Tax Deductable.
