Pretty interesting recent poll, they had almost 1500 responses. Here are some of the more interesting to me, others are in the link below:

Two things jump out at me.

1. The participation in the survey skews quite young. At least 87% were under 34 years old, and about 95% under 44. This obviously could not be considered a representative sample of the NASCAR fanbase at large.

2. Yet these respondents still claim to prefer the 'classic' full season points championship format (a scheme that hasn't been in use for most of their lifetimes), and show a strong dislike of playoffs and eliminations. These are essentially the demographics of fans the newer formats were proposed to attract.
 
For anyone interested, this was an online poll conducted on the NASCAR subreddit. Lets give some credit shall we?

 
Also important have been the band aids Nascar have applied to the playoff's. Although it seems the latest version is the most liked (new version) playoff system, fans didn't like all of the changes over the years..diminished the importance maybe?
