CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) -- Oprah Winfrey celebrated the premiere of her 19th season by surprising each of her 276 audience members with a new car.

If I had her kind of money. I would give you a car and fill it with gas. :lol:
 
I bet she did have them full of gas!

From what I heard, the cars were donated by Pontiac!
 
That and Pontiac is paying the Taxes and customizing of the Cars. I also read she gave a girl that was in foster care for years a 4 scholarship a make over and $10,000 in Cash and gave a family with 8 foster kids that was about to lose their home she gave them $130,000 to buy and repair the Home.
 
I am generally impressed when someone in her position helps someone less fortunate than themselves. It is easy for us to say they should do more. Or to somehow downgrade what they did by camparing it to how much they have left. The simple fact is that they don't have to give anything and they do it anyway.

While I don't really have much of an opinion of Bill Gates in any other regard, the man is a charitable machine. While it is true that he has more money than most countries have he still has no abligation to give away any of it. And yet, he gives away millions and millions of dollars a year to various charities.

I say bravo to them :cheers:

And my wife (an accountant) brought up a point...wouldn't those who received the cars, have to pay a Gift Tax? Eventhough all other taxes are paid?
 
The way I read it Pontiac was footing the Bill on all of it. I thought about that same thing cause the folks I guess would still have to pay that fee to get thier Tags. But heck I'd pay the tax fee if a Brand New $28,000 vehicle was given to me :D
 
On Regis and Kelly this morning they said GM donated the cars. So, besides having the people on her show Oprah didn't really do that much.
BUT.......OPRAH I NEED A CAR!!!
