A Senna on TLC right now!

Don't know about that, but it's a great show. I guess I should have put this on the F1 board, but I wanted to let as many people as I could that it was on right now. They are going by seconds on that last lap. Very interesting to say the least.

I don't remeber how he died so it would be cool to see. I think it was in a firery crash right? I will check outtvguide.com to see if it will be replayed

No, he died because he got hit in the head with his right front tire after running off the road and hitting the wall at over 200 mph. That was a terrific segment. If only NASCAR had all the telemetry that F1 has, they would really know what happened to Earnhardt. Senna's car's telemetry told them everything and it was a forgone conclusion as to what happened.

hmmm..I wouldn't say that...I don't think they were sure why he went off the road in the first place...some say his tyres weren't up to temp. and that made it harder to drive and that's why he went off...some say suspention failure...I don't think it's ever been proven. But I have seen the last lap footage and I really don't think it had anything to do with tyre temp.IMO.

Tiger, according to the program, and using the telemety on board, the cause of the accident was that the car bottomed out and went out of control because of that. What they speculated as to why that happened is that at the beginning of the race, there was a terrible crash that had to be cleaned up. The cars then followed a pace car, something they hadn't done before. The pace car was much slower than the race cars and as such, the temps of the tires went down as much as 25%. Those cars were designed to be as close to the ground as possible and even on milimeter would mean as much as .10 sec. 25% cooler tires will lower the car more than that. When Senna began to round the curve, his car bottomed out and the rear end cut loose. Senna then corrected by turning the wheel to the right, but when he did that, the front end gripped and steered the car off course and into the wall. There, the front right tire was caught between the car and the wall for a short time and rolled up over the car, hitting Senna on the way. There was speculation that the steering wheel broke, but telemety showed that it was intact at the moment of impact.

Sounds like it would have been very interesting to see the program indeed. And sounds pretty much most likely what happeded...

But I dunno after seeing the in car camera footage...my gut tells me it doesn't seem right some how...

Whatcha think might have been the cause? The show gave a pretty compelling case for their reason. They had the incar cameras plus the telemetry. They also talked to various experts and drivers. Because the accident happened in Italy, it had to be investigated by the government and they showed a part of that as well.

To tell you the truth...I have no idea...and I don't think I'll ever be 100% sure, can anyone really? He's a fantastic driver you would think he could tell the difference in the car if the tyres had lost so much temp. (which I'm sure they had) but along with tyres maybe other things become the wrong temp also...these cars are meant to run at certain temps all over the car...not just tyres...I think it was both tyres and other factors...

Just wish that you could have seen the show. I learned a lot about the design aspect of the cars from that show. Of course, the cars now days are much different. Also, the track has been changed as well.

I guess at the end of the day, nothing will bring back the champ even if we knew exactly what happened. And the main thing it that, like you have said, they learn from things like this and make the cars better and the tracks better etc...

I thought the reason he was killed was because a piece of the suspension went through his helmet..? I saw pics of the helmet he was wearing during that race.. and it had a hole in the visor, and a hole in the back of the helmet... obviously something went right through it..

I was watching that race very early that morning. It was a sad day. Initally they said the front suspension or wheel and tire got into him after impacting the wall and I believe after a week or two was when the report of the car bottoming out was released.
Wasn't there even talk about legal action against F1 in that country.
