BUDWEISER UNVEILS NEW DALE EARNHARDT JR. '8-PACK'
Popular NASCAR Driver Is Featured on Budweiser Secondary Packaging:
New '8-Pack' Available in Charlotte, Darlington and Atlanta in 2004, All Race Markets in 2005
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Oct. 13, 2004)- Anheuser-Busch and Dale Earnhardt Jr. announced today that the popular NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series driver will be displayed on the packaging of new Budweiser '8-packs' now available in select race markets.
Select wholesalers and retailers in Charlotte, N.C., Darlington, S.C. and Atlanta are offering the specialty packaging of 12-ounce Budweiser cans through the end of the year while supplies last. In 2005, the new packages will be found in all NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race markets. The '8-packs' are packaged at the Anheuser-Busch Williamsburg brewery.
"There's no coincidence that the '8-pack' contains eight Budweisers and I drive the number eight car," said Earnhardt Jr. "I'm pretty excited about this, and I know racing fans will be, too. Two more cans than a standard six-pack means you can view the chase for the championship with even more friends."
"At Anheuser-Busch, we've always strived to bring adult beer drinkers and race fans the freshest beer as quickly as possible. Let me tell you, there's nothing faster than Dale Jr. and his #8 Budweiser Chevrolet," said Andy Goeler, senior director, Budweiser Brand Marketing, Anheuser-Busch, Inc. "NASCAR fans are going to love this convenient package that's perfect for tailgating at the track or hosting a race watch party at home. We wish Dale Jr. the best of luck down the home stretch of the season."
"Stock car racing has quite a following here on the east coast, so we're thrilled that the Williamsburg brewery is the source for this unique package," said Brian McNelis, plant manager, Anheuser-Busch Williamsburg brewery. "Our brewery workers are faithful supporters of Dale Jr. week-in and week-out, and to have him here today to unveil the '8-pack' is something special."
In 2000, Budweiser unveiled a series of four 16-ounce cans commemorating Earnhardt Jr.'s rookie season in the then-named NASCAR Winston Cup Series. The individual cans featured one of four NASCAR tracks- including Daytona International Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway, New Hampshire International Speedway and Phoenix International Speedway - along with the facility's official logo and an Earnhardt Jr.-themed image.
Budweiser is brewed by Anheuser-Busch Inc., the leading U.S. brewer that holds a 50 percent share in Grupo Modelo, Mexico's leading brewer. Inc. ranked first overall in quality of products and services among nearly 600 companies researched in FORTUNE magazine's 2004 "America's Most Admired Companies" listing.
