Six dogs, three miniature ponies, three llamas and a peacock were left abandoned at the Bristol home of motorcycle drag racer Jake Silcox.
Neighbor Sid Arnold told the Bristol Herald Courier the All Harley Drag Racing Association rider moved out about a month ago. He left the animals without food or water, although Arnold said he volunteered to feed the ponies and llamas some hay from one of his barns and Silcox agreed to pay him for the service.
The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office on Thursday confirmed an investigation.
A warning notice left on the property on Dec. 3 states the dogs are thin, need to be seen by a vet as soon as possible and have no food or water. The warning also says the condition of the animals appears to violate the state's animal cruelty law.
The newspaper could not reach Silcox for comment.
