Okay, here's the deal. We have a vacation home and were wondering if any of you might have suggestions on how we might keep an eye on the place when we are not using it. I heard of systems that video the interior and record inside temperatures and humidity but do not know how they work, what would be involved or how to transmit the video 24 hours a day when we are at our home in North Carolina. Any suggestions from computer wonks or anyone who might have information or suggestions to accomplish what we hope to achieve will be appreciated.

Contact any of the major home security companies.
A friend that lives not too far from me has a monitored system on his house where he can view, activate or deactivate any of his cameras from a computer or from his smart phone. These systems are becoming more and more common.

We were going to do that but was thinking it might be more economical for us if we could install our own system. Got any ideas on how to do that and what might be entailed? Not as concerned about break-ins as we are with electricity going down or a/c quitting, water intrusion, things like that. We already shut the water off at the street but have concern for high humidity creating mold issues if a/c quits in the summer or pipes freeze in the winter. Thanks for the alarm company suggestion and I will check it out as we plan a fast trip there and back within a couple of weeks.
