Two men indicted in street racing deaths

UPPER MARLBORO, Maryland - Two men were racing on an isolated stretch of highway when one plowed into a crowd gathered to watch another illegal race, killing eight people, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Authorities said for the first time that two drivers, not just one, were involved in the gruesome February crash as they announced charges against Darren Bullock, 20, and Tavon Taylor, 18.

The men were each charged with eight counts of vehicular manslaughter, along with reckless driving and street racing. If convicted, they face up to 10 years in prison on each manslaughter count and fines for the other charges.

I say lock 'em up and throw away the key.

Another reason racing belongs ON THE TRACK.

From The Washington Post:

A surveillance camera at a nearby factory caught Bullock and Taylor driving with their headlights off a quarter-mile from the crash site, said a source close to the investigation. "They're caught on camera at 110 miles per hour," said the source, who spoke anonymously because the investigation is ongoing. By comparing images of the cars to fixed objects, such as light poles, investigators calculated the speed of the vehicles, the source said.

Racimng belongs ON THE RACETRACK.

There is NO excuse for street racing.

True, but I must plead guilty to having done it when I was a little younger than these 2. Mom's '68 Impala had a quirk. If you popped the accelerator quickly it would go to the bottom and stick until you reached ~60. And that big A** engine could beat most everything off the light. Of course this was in normal traffic and not with a crowd gathered around to see the outcome. But still, y'all don't do this...

I have to admit that in my early 20s we also did a little racing. HOWEVER, we went out to an industrial area that was totally shut down --- no businesses, dead-end street. Great concrete.

But, NEVER, EVER on a public highway/street.

only street racin i ever done was on the clovers... off ramps :D me and a few friends used to do it real late at night with no traffic. but never pushed the envelope... it was always after teh dirt track nights :D my little chevy chavette done awesome LOL

but i agree... lock 'em up for good!!!!!
