I think new members should be moderated.

Meaning they have their posts reviewed before they're live on the board. Once they've posted some, shown they're part of the community and not here to shill another site, or porn like these last couple of days, they can be turned loose to muck it up like the rest of us.

I know this would be time consuming, but I'm sure there's senior members here ( Bob, Fergy, Kat for example) that would certainly be willing, that could be added on as moderators to keep that ****e off the boards.

I'd be happy to help as well, but some find me 'controversial'

...just an idea.

I couldn't agree more.and....you're not controversial

ehhhh.....anything you do to delay a posting of a new member on a board usually results in them not comming back....theres a decent carolina panthers board that i would like to post on on charlotte.com, however you have to wait 48 hours to post...usually ive already forgot what i had to say 48 hours ago...and typically say its not worth signing up for.

i think it simply comes down to how the boards are moderated.

Well if the newbie posts are moderated, they can reply, just a mod of that particular forum has to approve it before it goes 'live'.

That's the point of having Admins that run the boards, and then moderators to approve new members and filter initial posts.

I run a forum of my own, and I'm a mod at a couple others...it's not a big deal to implement, just need the folks to help out, which I'm sure wouldn't be a problem.

Nonsense. Posts are usually read within hours by at least one mod. A post that would be modded/editted/deleted will be within a reasonable timeframe. Having every post for every new member proof-read will annoy new members, make more work for volunteer mods, and unless you're prepared to stop a conversation and wait, have new members comments dropped either out of place, or half way up a conversation where noone's going to read them anyways.

I know everyone means well but dont think it can be done, well it can but would be to much trouble. If someone does post BS the only other way to make sure they dont come back is maybe blocking there IP maybe.

I know I am new to the forum, but let me say that it is run better than any other I have visited. Some of the other forums wait days or in some case they wait until something has been complained about to look at it. Here objectionable posts are removed quickly. I agree with you though, some people just like to stir up trouble and forget that there are people who want to express themselves in an intelligent manner. Hope I haven't been a problem for anyone. :)

i agree...things seem to be working pretty good here...i think this entire thread was brought up because of a post that was made around 3:30 am...i noticed at 8:30am...considering the time when it was posted i can understand why it was still on the board..

by the way....where abouts in NC are ya? im in the charlotte area...but really a Mooresville boy...you know Race City USA ;) home of the great DEI hehe

I am on the other side of the state. I am in Eastern NC near Raleigh. I understand now why I missed what Kyle is talking about. I am too old to be on my computer at 3am. and I have classes at 8am.

I agree that this racing-forums place is one of the very best moderated boards on the net. BELIEVE ME, i HAVE SEEN SOME HORRFIC, disgusting things posted here by a former (now banned) member who frequently changes identities just to try and torture a few with whom he has issues. He is a psycho and Admin is on to him.
NO board can be monitered 24/7/365, but I would ike to suggest the addition of a clickable button to "REPORT THIS POST so that if it is truely obscene or blatantly offensive Admin will be notified ASAP.
There are no "Board Police" to settle the small stuff, nor should there be. Don't forget that YOU have the option to pay a post or a poster no mind, and that there is an "IGNORE" option as well.
I actually did report one former regular poster via PM for threats made to me by PM, and Admin immediately addresses that person personally.

To me, it's all about R E S P E C T!!!!!!!!!! Don't make a fool of yourself by sinking to the level of another fool, respect other posters (even when disagreeing), and respect for yourself. Before you hit that "submit" button, read it over and take a brief moment to think how it may affect others. It's a simple thing to do, and you won't regret it later. Try your very best NOT to play the tit for tat game and learn to let the water roll off the duck's back.
We ALL suffer from "foot in mouth" sometimes because we are human, but remember what goes around just may come back and bite you in the butt when you least expect it.
Thanks for reading this to the end.

Kat, there already is one of those buttons. When reading a post, if you look in the upper right hand corner of the post you will see the red outlined white triangle with the exclamation point. THAT is the report bad post button. ;)

how is that sent to the mods..to private message or to email? if its not sent to email i think we should have it pointed towards the mods email box.

It is sent to the Admin's email and also to any mod of that particular forum. And, believe me...........I got THREE emails regarding the thread that was posted at whatever time this morning. It was taken care of by myself I believe around 7:35 or so AM. Sorry folks, but I do have to get some sleep, and I really don't think it is necessary to approve newbies new posts. Posts like the one that was removed this morning usually only last a few hours at the most and then they and the poster are dealt with. Usually it doesn't take even that long.

Just so you folks know, we (Admins & Mods) DO appreciate all of our members input and although we may not institute your suggestions, they are most welcome. That's what makes this place great! We may not all agree with each other all the time, but in the end we all come to the same conclusion: we just agree to disagree! Ain't life grand?!!!! :D

So that's what that little do-thing is!!

What's the other one that looks like a scale? Can I give you a bad reputation with it?

Kat, Excellent post and well thought out. I agree 100%.

btw, this is a great forum and the mods are pretty darn good.

Damn, double damn. That's what I get for not getting up early enough to peruse the board before I go to work...I miss out on all the good stuff. :) I've been around here a very long time and I've seen some good stuff and I've seen some bad stuff, but what we have now is terrific (mods, I love ya!).

On a different take now, this whole internet thing keeps getting bigger and bigger each and every day. Spammers learn how to get around filters and that will never stop. Not long ago, getting a virus was something that happened to one in a million, but today, if you don't have a decent antivirus program running all the time, the number of virus you can get in one day is amazing. The same thing about virus and of course, the dreaded spyware. Most of the spammers don't even know where their stuff is going and as such, even replying to any of it is really kind of dumb. Sort of like calling for your wife in the middle of a forest when she's at home. :) But on a more serious note, back to the main subject, if you've been here very long, you'll know that this kind of thing just didn't happen very often if at all. It's just that these days, spammers know that there are plenty of forums out there where they can flood their junk a lot easier and probably cheaper than stuffing mailboxes all over the internetdom. I say let our mods do the job that they've been so very good at doing and not worry about anything.

i think this is the right policy..yes every now and then things are going to slip by, but it happens once in a blue moon...i think we should stick to what we have now.

Sorry Kat for quoting only part of your post but I wanted to zero in on an item:

Just for the record I want everyone to know that I have NOTHING to do with pigs. (Inside joke for those that missed it) :) :D :)

And once again my thanks to the mods. :)

Pigs and sheep? I really would have liked to seen that post.. I do agree there are some things that are off limits, however. There just ain't no need for ugly posts.
