A rookie is 19th and Jr is 21st in points.. I would hide my head under the pillow and never again come out!

He should be thinking of his chosen vocation.

C'mon Jr crowd...stand up for him.. I'd like to hear how good Jr is.

He has the best position in racing, and simply can't cut it.

Meanwhile he is taking up space that another young guy could do good with.

Betsy

Maybe he continues to race because more people want to see him race than any other driver out there. Who ever said that winning id the only thing worth watching? I enjoyed watching Kyle Petty race every week even after he was no longer competitive.

Why do that? He's making millions doing exactly what he's doing. A fan favorite, souveneer sales, endorsements, you name it.

Using this logic...

Mark Martin should've retired in 2001.

Bill Elliott should've retired in 1995.

Big E should've retired in 1997.

Terry Labonte should've retired in 1986.

I like Junyer (it's his fans I like to drive insane:growl:) and I hope they get their issues solved.

I dont have anything against Dale but I have always said he is only popular because of his name.

Im telling you this guy is an average driver and way overrated. He needs to quit using the crew chief and equipment as an excuse. Time to fess up, its his driving, not the equipment. He has the best equipment now and cant cut it.

But I like seeing him in the races, it always makes it interesting. But he will never be the caliber of driver that Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch(yes I will add him), Mark Martin, Carl Edwards are.

Don't get me wrong I am a Dale Jr fan,But the thing is everybody expects the same raw talent and success out him that Sr had,and you can't always do that.He is not Sr.You think Rick Hendrick signed him on his success the previous couple years? No.He signed him cause no matter what he is the most popular driver out there and he gets a cut of souviner sales and all the other stuff.Even if he isnt successful Jr brings alot of money to the table and Hendrick makes out either way.If he runs good then it is just an added bonus for HMS.

Betsy,

You make it sound like Junior is the only driver to ever have a slump. According to your flawed logic, any driver that isn't winning is "taking up space." There are drivers racing now that have MUCH longer slumps than Junior.

Some of them have had such long slumps, people have forgotten about them. Kahne, Harvick, Burton, Newman, Jeff Gordon (before Texas this year), etc have all had rough years where they've been down in the points.

Two top-ten finishes in a row, and competing for a top 5 at AMS shows that things are starting to improve for Junior. But I'd be the first to tell you that even when he's at his best, Dale isn't the best driver in the Cup series.

He's not his father. Fans and haters alike need to stop pretending he is.

BTW, dispite winning only one race last year, he was in top-5 in points for most of the season.

Very well put. I completly agree :beerbang:

just when I thought she said the dumbest thing ever she proves me wrong

I think Junior does have some talent and isn't overrated like some suggest. I think his problem is his focus. I think what DW said on Wind Tunnel a while back is spot on. If Junior would put everything to the side for 6 weeks and only concentrate on racing, you'd see a major improvement in results. I agree with that.

"everything else" is a product of the rewards he has from racing.. Are you saying he doesn't know where his money comes from?

Some thought his crew chief was the problem. Well he isn't doing much, if any, better with his new crew chief.

A few here think he just doesn't have enough understanding of his race car to help with trimming it for success.

Me? I don't care one way or another. Perhaps it would be good for the sport if he wins a couple every year.

It would be nice if the sports most popular (by far) driver won once in a while.
