someone posted a tim richmond video last week and something struck me. Man I sure love how those cars drove back in the day. They look so predictable in how they break loose in the corners. You could just run in there hard bounce off a guy and not wreck. Watched another video of big e and richmond on a road course at riverside in 86, those guys would come off the corners in a 4 wheel drift. actually the cars look like a blast to drive like that. If they could somehow get back to that style of racing. its no wonder how certain drivers did best in certain time periods. now days you try to do that and you are going to crash

check out the fall race at dover 1989. DALE and Mark side by side for the last 25 laps. Smoke coming form the bias ply tires in every conner.it was awesome. the back top was better racing to me.

I remember a race at Michigan that came down to Bill Elliott and Rusty Wallace back in the late 80's. With about 20 to go they were going at it and both drivers where smoking the right rear tire coming out of the turns at probably 175 or so back then. The cars were not as fast but boy was it exciting to watch. You could tell when the drivers really turned the wick all the way up when you saw the smoke boil off the right rears. Thats what we need today. The cars wont slide on radials.

Nascar and the France mafia is too stupid to figure this out.

I think not being able to play with the stagger of the tires has hurt the racing. they all have the same tire.

OK OK I want to see smoke coming off the right rear, an attaboy to the first person who links a video of big E or any of the other old timers smoking the right rear in the corners.

Couldn't agree more! When I started going to races at Dover that was the configuration. We had seats coming out of turn 2 on the wooden bleachers. It was a great view watching them come through that turn slideways. Take out that dang concrete and put the asphalt down. Same thing at Bristol.

it appears that bias ply tires were what made the cars appear to essentially handle like a dirt car. is there just no way to make a bias ply tire hold up??
