At 6:35 p.m., Airton Dare, driver of the No. 5 Conseco/A.J. Foyt Racing Panoz G Force/Toyota/Firestone, made contact with the outside retaining wall in Turn 4 with the right side of the car. The car slid from Turn 4 into the grass portion of the infield between pit lane and the racetrack and was facing backward. There was heavy damage to the right side of the car. Dare was helped from the car by Indy Racing League safety team members.

Medical update from Dr. Henry Bock, medical services director for the Indy Racing League: Airton Dare has been transported by air to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. He is awake and alert, and in stable condition. He will be evaluated for a possible fracture of his upper right arm and upper right leg. A further update will be provided when available.

:( Boy he just can't buy a break. He gets let go from Foyt racing after doing a great job last year to make room for AJ Foyt IV. He finally gets another Chance at Indy with Foyt and runs very competitively until he has mechanical problems and that performance gets him the ride for the rest of the year. He should have been in this car the whole year as good as he performed for Foyt last year and the fact that Aj Foyt IV is out their uncompeitive every week, wrecking cars perfectly capable of winning with Dare. Hopefully this doesn't sideline him for too long.

Broken Arm and broken leg!! HE will be out for awhile!
I bet J. Lazier is happy. He now has a Toyota to drive and not the slow chevy! Might have been a good thing he was fired at Menards! Right now Foyt is not that good of a team, btu its better than having a chevy!

Airton Dare was being treated Thursday night for possible fractures of bones in his right arm and right leg, IRL officials reported.

Dare was airlifted to Parkland Hospital in Dallas after his car hit the wall in Turn Four during a practice session Thursday evening in preparation for the Bombadier 500 IRL IndyCar Series event this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway. He was listed in stable condition was possible fractures to his upper right arm and upper right leg.

The 25-year-old Brazilian was chosen the driver of A.J. Foyt's No. 5 car on Wednesday. Shigeaki Hattori had driven the car for the first four races of the IRL season, but his sponsorship deal with Epson concluded after the Indianapolis 500. Dare won the IRL race last season at Kansas Speedway in one of Foyt's cars.

Dare hit the wall in the fourth turn at speed during the practice session. Rescue workers needed several minutes to extract Dare from the car. He was reported to be awake and alert.

The IRL's Bombardier 500 is set for 8 p.m. Saturday on ESPN.
