Historically, the All-Star was has been a balls to the wall, go for broke, cars are expendable, checkers or wreckers race. Why such aggressiveness in this race? It is a non-points paying event. It's all for the $1,000,000 paycheck to the victor. Nobody remembers who crossed the line in second position under the checkered flag. Points dont mean ****.

Now under NASCAR's new "good points days" don't matter format, how do they expect to differentiate this race's excitement and thrills with any other race? NASCAR has done all they can to eliminate drivers from just holding onto a top 5 to collect points. Points dont mean ****.

Unintentionally, are they killing the idea of an all-star race?

Maybe make it no holds barred? Let teams and drivers have more freedom to do things off the track and on the track?
I like that idea really. Let the teams run illegal setups for one race. Choose whichever Goodyear tire combo they desire. As long as safety is the first priority, why not let these teams get these cars as fast as possible with little rules?

Exactly!

When asked what he would do to win the all star race, Matt Kenseth replied. "I think it's about the same as every other week. We just want to win."

I think it's about the same as every other week...

I think this race needs an overhaul for excitement

I heard it on Race Hub or another program, but running all three courses would be cool imo.

Segment 1: The quarter mile bull ring
Segment 2: The Road course
Segment 3: The regular 1.5 mile track.

Must run all three segments with the same car.

WHO CARES?!! Lol it's plenty different from every other race. Just sayin..
Im not talking about the format, I'm talking about the motivation for driver competitiveness. They have already interviewed drivers and none of them are motivated by the money. Another point is this race was always one to look forward to because drivers would race their asses off an not give a damn about keeping the car in one piece because it was the one race out of the year where they could not worry about points. Only the win. Now, the entire season is in the vein of the all-star race. Not much separates the excitement of NASCAR throwing a debris caution to create a GWC heat to the finish and the all-star race heats to the finish.

Now there's a pure American idea :salute:

Yeah I guess.. but I think the format gives it a bit of added excitement we only get to see every 2-3 points races now :D

I like the 10 lap dash to the finish and how the starting order is set by average finish of the first segments.

Anybody else think they should raise the stakes a little? I mean in 1985 a million dollars was a huge payday for a single race and a huge amount of money. Nowadays, doesn't the Daytona 500 pay MORE than that?

Lets make it 5 million, we all know the France's can afford it. Heck, a million dollars won't even get you a modest home in some neighbourhood's in my city. Condo's going up for double that these days!

I think they should just give chase entry to the.... oh wait... nevermind :p lol

Ur right though.... Make it $10m even lol :D

Drivers have said they race for the trophy, not the money. But if they boost it to $5 million+ opinions might change :D
Give the drivers a cool trophy, maybe even a fancy sticker for their car , a free classic car... something.

Jimmie Johnson said tongue in cheek, "run the first 4 segments in the correct direction, then the last segment run 'em backwards. Put a ramp in there somewhere. I'm not afraid to go airborne!"
:p

I'm with you. A bigger purse can fix this race. Think about the team bonuses five million dollars would provide. That's checkers or wreckers.

$1 million is chump change to the elite drivers. Move it to a short track, put them at a dirt track in dirt late models like the Prelude, anything. Charlotte has enough points dates and isn't that thrilling of a track.

Yep, it doesn't go nearly as far as it did 30 years ago. Even the back markers are making 7 digits these days.

How about the winner of the All Star race gets pole position and pit selection at the Coca Cola 600.

Clint Bowyer wins every All-Star Race from now until retirement.
original

Maybe a change of venue is in order? I say relocate the All Star race to Eldora and let them battle it out in dirt late models or dirt Modifieds.

I thought all these guys and lady just loved to race? Why can't they just give us a good freebie once a year?

CAGE MATCH . No holds barred . No stupid ten count . Suddden death . They race like crazy for one hour , then the fans decide who won . No pain no gain . Winner gets to BBQ the last placed driver . What a stupid event .

Whoever can gain the most fan votes via reddit earns $500,000

Allowing the teams to run trick setups would be neat. MW could legally utilize his rocket fuel.

You know.. the Daytona 500 pays just over $1.5 million to the winner.... if you think about it comparatively.. a 90 lap race at Charlotte paying over 60% of what the Daytona 500 pays is probably some motivation... Theres not many races that pay that much to the winner and any that come close are about five times longer than this one. I mean yeah, theyre rich already.. but I know if I had $500 million and someone offered me another million Id still want it .. especially if I had to do 20% of the work I would usually have to do to earn less than that.

Plus theres the prestige of being an all star winner... bragging rights and entry to every other all star race.

If you aren't motivated just by strapping on your helmet, you shouldn't be in the car.
