Alonzo injured

Hope he is alright, not a Alonso fan, but I am a Ferrari fan and I liked him at Ferrari. Been a tough past day with Kyle Busch getting hurt yesterday, and Alonso today

I really hope he's alright...what a **** weekend this might end up being otherwise.

It does look like they updated since I posted it. At first the article said hew as taken to the hospital for precautionary measures, with not much else.

I hope he is alright as well, not sure if they just updated but the link headline reads "uninjured"

Actually more like escapes injury, "uninjured" was a misquote.

Opened this thread and about shat myself. So he was airlifted but is "uninjured".. Wth does that mean? I sure hope he recovers quickly. Rough weekend to be a Motorsports athlete.

This is his third night in the hospital. There's a lot that's not being told.

"In order to provide the privacy and tranquility required to facilitate a peaceful recuperation, he is being kept in hospital for further observation, and to recover from the effects of the medication that successfully managed his routine sedation yesterday," his team said.

Pretty damn vague, I agree. You don't think that the energy recovery system zapped him though? That would be pretty freakin nuts.

I wouldn't rule it out but that wouldn't be my guess. McLaren blamed it on "strong winds"...right. Vettel was behind him and said it looked really strange. James Allen talked to a few team principals and said they're even perplexed by it. I wonder if he has some sort of condition that just revealed itself.

3 days in the hospital, it cant be good I fear worse info is yet to come.
When Michael Shumacher had the skiing accident in late 2013 they minimized the seriousness with the early reports

He was shocked by the electronics in the car, then he wasn't. He was unconscious, then he wasn't, then he was but only for a very short amount of time. He was concussed, then he wasn't. He was kept in the hospital for several days and now he's missing the first GP of the season, but he's basically fine and uninjured. Vettell said the crash was really strange, the team said it was just the wind.

This has all been very weird. Hopefully whatever is going on gets resolved and Alonso is able to get back on track in a short amount of time.

However, the Spaniard was on Monday ruled out of the race on medical advice, but former F1 driver and Sky F1 commentator Brundle was left with more questions.

"Something is amiss. Something doesn't add up. When he missed the test, I assumed it meant he would miss the first race," he told Telegraph Sport.

"It's a very strange situation. There's a lot of smoke and mirrors around. We get back to the real crux of this in the first place: did he have an event that meant he went and hit the wall, or was it hitting the wall? Is it cause or is it effect? We don't know. Everybody is a little bit coy about it so something isn't quite right."

Reports on this are getting stranger and more worrisome:

Upon waking up after the accident in Montmeló, [Alonso] thought it was still 1995. It took a week for him to recover the memories of the last 20 years.
"Who are you? What are you dedicated to? What are your goals for the future?", Alonso was asked upon waking. "I am Fernando, I race in karts, and I want to be a Formula 1 driver," [he replied].
While the response may seem funny, people at the time may not have grasped [the gravity of the situation], especially at first, before the countless tests administered to [Alonso] undercut the tension and explained any time of brain injury as a result of the impact.
Although it's still uncertain what caused [Alonso] to lose control on the exit of Turn 3, the Spaniard regained consciousness, but he was in 1995 - he remembered nothing of the nearly twenty years since. Not his debut with Minardi, his two titles with Renault, not even the last four Champions of Madrid (his football team).
Within a week, the Spaniard was almost fully recovered, and although he will miss the first round of the World Championship, March 15th in Australia, he has already begun training, looking to the second round, March 29th in Malaysia.

This renowned neurologist is one of the top experts in this part of Spain. They see all sorts of brain injuries, and they consider Alonso's belief he was twenty years in the past to be fairly normal. "An injury like [Alonso's] occurs because the brain suffers a shock (like an impact, not electrical shock) that has affected the neuronal synapses. When this occurs, the [synapses] don't function properly, so the brain will be searching for a memory and can't find it. Recovery time is a case-by-case thing. It's important to keep in mind that within the brain, the memory portion is most sensitive to these kinds of injuries," said [Dr. Rafael Blesa].

This feels creepy like there are more untold concerns.
Maybe his racing days are done. I just hope he can resume to a normal life.
