Who doesn't like Nascar Cup or NNS short track racing? Tonight's race had some decent moment, but a lot of the race was hurry up and get into the top groove and follow the leader. Passing at Bristol sucks. You either have to use a lap car as a pick, dive bomb a corner, or rough them up to get by them. Yeah sure that can add for some excitement, but I still feel like it lacks a bit. Martinsville and Richmond are about the same to me also.

I love the short track racing as well as the road courses, the mile and a halfs are the worst IMO

I enjoy short track racing. But they need to do something about these cars or the track or something. Bristol is not a follow the leader track like Daytona & 'Dega. Passing shouldn't be impossible. Everywhere we go its the same frikkin issue, "its so hard to pass here"

Bristol has always been overrated IMO. Single file on the bottom for yrs. moving te guy out of the way being the main way to pass people. Lots of wrecks. I liked the 3 wide racing that changing the track created. Of course the rednecks couldn't deal with it because there was less crashing. Changed the track again and now it's single file on the top. Though the cup race in the spring was pretty good

I love short track racing, the tracks I personally have issues with are Loudon, Chicago & Kansas. Bristols fun to watch because of its dimensions and the type of racing that gos on there. If I were a Cup driver, It'd Be Circled On The shedule...

I liked the progressive banking from '07-'12 before they ground down the top line more than what we have now, but there wasn't enough crashing for most "fans". I still solidly prefer Bristol to most tracks though.

Couldn't have said it better myself. People ran side by side lap after lap and the BETTER car would prevail.

I agree with you on that one. I liked the old Bristol, and I liked the progressive banking too.

The Nationwide race was okay tonight, but as cool and different as it is to have the groove at the top of the track, it makes passing nearly impossible even when using the bumper. If it's gonna be a one groove track, I'd rather have the groove be on the bottom.

Martinsville is definitely my favorite short track.

I love Bristol but get what you're saying,. The bottom lane sucks. The passing however wouldn't be that hard if the cars weren't so close together. Just dive bomb and make the pass. You better have room though or you're ******.

The type of racing that goes on here is follow the leader. Hows that fun to watch?

Bristol has always been follow the leader --- except in the past, it was around the bottom. The only way to pass was to boot cars out of the bottom groove and watch them slide toward the wall.
Right. & that was great racing. Using the chrome horn like short track racing should be. But now that its follow the leader up top, theres no room to move anyone out of the way.

hell, you cry about every track..one thing about it, you are consistent

The problem is Bristol used to have a waiting list for tickets. Lately the attendance has been embarrassing. This also has meant less money for tickets sold because of discounting. When your down 1/3 in revenue you better do something. That is why bruton ground off the top groove. The crazy thing is the cars seemed to have moved up higher than they ran before. I am happy with the track you still need to ruff a guy up to get by unless they let you have the spot

If only drivers started using their bumpers again

They can't use their bumpers up top. That was the best part about the bottom lane. A guy could move a guy without wrecking him, most of the time, however if someone bumps someone up top they are either spinning or in the wall. There's nothing interesting about a bunch of guys wrecking a bunch of other guys, unless it's Kyle Busch getting wrecked.

Let's see what Kyle has to say about that.....Kyle, what is your response?

Bristol sucked when they had the compound banking. The racing was no different than what you'd see at Texas. Harder to pass is a good thing. Last night's race reminded me of the Busch Series races at IRP.

I preferred the three groove configuration to either of the one groove configurations, but I enjoy Bristol far more than most tracks no matter what the configuration is. The different configurations are all exciting in different ways.

Personally, I think Bristol should be reconfigured to have one groove at the bottom (the configuration most fans liked), and have someone build a new short track that mimmicks the three groove Bristol. :) That way, everyone is happy: Bottom groove fans get their Bristol back, Three groove fans (like me) have a replica of three groove Bristol, and (almost) everyone celebrates a new short track on schedule (hopefully at the expense of a boring track).

If anyone ever reconfigures Bristol they should increase the banking 5 degrees. Fixed banking, not progressive. Either asphalt or dirt would work for me.

Why can't someone run at the bottom, wouldn't there be enough grip?

EDIT: Brad Daugherty just talked about this, saying that the top groove is 2 tenths faster than running on the bottom.

Leave the track alone. Put softer compound tires on the cars and have the crew chiefs set the car up to either run the bottom or run the top. Then we'll see some great racing. Make putting tires on the car mean something. I'm all for the bump and run, just seems everyone was digging on restarts to get into the upper lane. Then again clean air showed itself after two laps!

I prefer Martinsville to Bristiol, always have regardless of configurations.

But there was nothing wrong with last nights race. And I have been happy with most all recent Bristol races.
I even like lapped traffic and the leaders having to finess there way through the slower cars.

It aint broke so please leave it alone, and take up knitting or something else to fill the downtimes if needed.

They run around the top instead of the bottom, big deal. Lap cars used as pics are the best opportunities to pass, not much difference there high or low. doesn't matter to me if they run the top or the bottom. The cars work better now, better tires, suspensions, motors, than they did in the olden days. Speeds are faster, so it really doesn't make a whole lot of difference what they do to the track IMO.

That was key last night, and kept it exciting. Front running cars were having to dive bomb into the corners and try to slide job (actual slide jobs) for the spot.. The bump and run is a lot harder now, cause when you bump a guy right next to the wall, it's not like he gets out of your way.
