Ambrose leaving @ end of 2010

I wonder where he'll go. I doubt he'll go back to V8 Super Cars, but I suppose that's always a choice if he can't land a ride.

He has proven he can run with the big boys even with a sub-par team. There's certainly opportunities for him. He could replace KK at RPM, or even replace Edwards when he gets kicked out of the sport for getting someone killed.

:D

that's a blindside..

We have Marcos and Kahne as free agents now, for next year. I have to wonder if the money is coming with Marcos, because Clorox and the ohers have stuck right there with him. He's learning the ovals, he's far from a sub-par driver compared to half the field, he has opportunities.

Clorox and their other subsidiaries like Kingsford have always been team owners Tad and Jodi Geschickter's sponsors for many years. I don't see them leaving that team at all.

I hate to see Marcos leave and I wish him well.

I am just wondering who will end up as the driver on this team. I just hope they don't go for someone that is at the sunset of their career.

oh ok. I never knew the team before Marocs, i thought they were his sponsors. my bad.

Red Bull could be a possibility. What has Scott Speed done, that Marcos couldn't do?

Marcos has always been a Ford man and I just wonder if he isn't thinking more on the lines of what Tony Stewart did after being switched to Toyota. Ambrose would be a nice replacement for Kahne.

I was thinking a Ford team if he stays since he was a Ford guy in Supercars. Maybe go back to the 21 if they have full sponsorship lined up for next season or Kahnes old ride. I would really like to see what he can do in a top notch car though. I'd really like to see Ragan get the boot and move to the 6, but that aint going to happen.

I wouldn't bet against that. I heard earlier in the year that this year was put up or shut up time for Ragan. UPS isn't giving Roush all that money to run mid-pack every week.

Is Vickers still on track to return for the 2011 Daytona 500?

Last thing I read on it was thats still his target.

Ambrose to the 9 seems like a good fit but the 6 would be better.

AND Ambrose did not say where he will drive next season, but he's believed to be close to finalizing a deal with Richard Petty Motorsports.(ESPN/AP)(7-27-2010)

I gotta say Ambrose was the best of the best for low budget teams and ran respectible. I think this is a HUGELY bad move. Petty is an organization falling apart at the seams and he is not going to do much here.

i hope he finds someone (competitive) that wants him to stay in sprint cup. he's been a disappointment this year but has a lot of talent. he's also one of the few that actually has a personality. <g>

Some more updates on this.....

Sirius NASCAR Radio's Sirius Speedway with Dave Moody has learned that Marcos Ambrose will replace Kasey Kahne in the #9 Ford at Richard Petty Motorsports next season. Ambrose said he has no "Plan B" in place for 2011 and could even return to his native Australia if another Sprint Cup opportunity does not surface. Highly placed sources tell Sirius Speedway that a deal with RPM is "95% done," though there is no definitive word on who might sponsor the effort. Ford Racing Marketing Manager Tim Duerr declined to comment specifically on the report today, but said the automaker has longstanding ties with Ambrose. "Marcos started with Ford and Ford brought him to NASCAR," said Duerr. "He bleeds Ford blue, and we would love to see him back in a Ford next season. I don't think that Marcos has a signed Sprint Cup ride for next season at present. It all depends on him, a sponsor and a team putting something together, but I am optimistic that we will see Marcos back in a Ford next season." A spokesman for Richard Petty Motorsports declined to comment today, calling the report "speculation."

-and-

Bobby Labonte is the leading candidate to drive the #47 Toyota for JTG Daugherty Racing in 2011, multiple sources confirmed Tuesday. JTG Daugherty Racing will be the sixth team in four years for Labonte, who left Petty Enterprises after the 2008 season. In 2009, he drove for Hall of Fame Racing in a #96 Ford fielded by Yates Racing for much of the year but found himself out of a ride late in the season. He drove the remaining races for #71 TRG Motorsports and started 2010 with that organization. He left that seat in June when the team began having to park early in events because of a lack of funding. He has driven for Robby Gordon Motorsports and Phoenix Racing in the months since then and will be back in a TRG car this weekend at Pocono Raceway. The 2000 Cup champion, Labonte has 602 career Cup starts with 21 victories. The 46-year-old Labonte will replace Marcos Ambrose, who announced Tuesday he was parting ways with the team after the 2010 season. A Bobby Labonte spokesman declined to comment

I wish him well. I've known several Aussies and everyone one a great guy,,or Shelia:beerbang:

FWIW never ever try to drink a 5'2" 120 pound Shelia under the table.:beerbang: DAMHIKT:eek:

Bobby Labonte is kind of like the 5th choice for prom date now. You dont want to go with them, you know they wont put out, but you really have no other choice.

Bobby is a great fit with these sponsors and with the team owners. I believe that communication will be good in that respect.

As to success.............. that remains to be seen. I believe he will do a lot better than he has the last few years. But only if the fit between driver, crew chief and team is all there.

They may not be championship material but I do believe they can have some success. I don't believe that Bobby is washed up but I guess we will have to see the results next year.

And with some of these sponsors on that team............... running up front is not required. They are happy with getting some positive camera exposure and having a good spokesperson for their products. I believe Bobby can fit that niche and even have some better finishes than he has had in the past 3 or so years.

Good luck to this team and to Bobby!
