I don't believe Ambrose is ready for Cup.

Ambrose tests at VIR with Wood Bros: Australian NASCAR driver Marcos Ambrose has completed his first test with Wood Brothers Racing in preparation for his Sprint Cup debut at the Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California in three weeks time. Ambrose drove the famous #21 Wood Brothers Ford in an open test at Virginia International Raceway which was attended by the majority of the Sprint Cup field. Ambrose completed 38 laps for a total of about 85 miles (136kms) and was conservatively in the top five cars at the end of the day, which was not officially recorded or timed. Ambrose will make his debut in NASCAR’s top ranks in a Little Debbie-backed Wood Brothers Ford Fusion at Sonoma on June 22. He will then run a further seven events for Wood Brothers at New Hampshire, Watkins Glen, Michigan, California, Dover, Texas and Phoenix. Ambrose will also drive four Sprint Cup events for JTG Racing, the first of which will be at Indianapolis in August. He will also run at Kansas, Atlanta and Homestead for that team.(BAM Media PR)(6-4-2008)

He is ready for the road courses but that’s about it.

The Wood Brothers are no longer ready for 'Cup most of the time. :(

Because a friend of mine is an Aussie, I've kept up on Marcos through his truck career and now the second year in the next level. Marcos, according to my friend, has not lived up to his reputation that he built while living downunder. Well, with the exception of spinning Robby Gordon that is. Ambrose was a two time champion in the Super V8 series down there, which is the top level of stock car racing there. I believe that he was given the opportunity to come north by Ford in hopes that he would show steady progress. Again, in my opinion, I think that when he was driving in the truck series for the Wood Brothers, he was probably told to not be aggressive and learn how to race the ovals. Respect these American drivers and learn from them. His equipment in the truck series was more on par with the better teams than he has now racing for TGR, who is also supported by the Wood Brothers. And remember, that #21 car, even driven by a former champ, is a back marker. If Marcos is going to do well in the Cup series, it'll be on a road course, but he'll have his hands full with the experienced Cup drivers for sure. If he shows his aggressiveness that he is known for down in Australia, he might do well, but will probably piss off plenty of people. Keep that in mind.

Oh well, I'll wave to him when I see him at The Glen. :) LOL

I for one would like to see him get a test or a one race deal in a competative car at cup level. He may be just what this series needs; a fiery, agressive driver with a personality. Kyle has two of the three. To bad he's a weasel.
