Robby Gordon will exact his revenge at Watkins Glen this weekend.

Not only will Gordon be racing the No. 7 Ford, the team owner will field a second car — the No. 77 — for Busch Series regular Marcos Ambrose, who he fiercely battled in the closing laps of the NAPA Auto Parts 200 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Saturday.
"Marcos did a helluva job," Gordon said. "He led a lot of laps on Saturday. It will be great to have him as my teammate."

Ambrose, who drives the No. 59 Kingsford Ford for Wood Brothers/JTG Racing, qualified fifth and led the most laps before Gordon spun him out with two laps remaining in the event. The Australian Ambrose finished seventh and is currently eighth in the Busch Series point standings.

If he qualifies for the race, Sunday will mark the Nextel Cup debut for the 30-year-old Launceston, Tasmania native. Ambrose began his career in NASCAR with the Wood Brothers last season.

Ambrose will not run Cup race at Watkins Glen: Wood Brothers/JTG Racing has decided that the team will again focus their attention on the team’s full-time #21 Cup entry [with Bill Elliott], putting on hold plans to run a second Cup [#47] entry for [Busch Series driver Marcos] Ambrose on the Watkins Glen road course. At the beginning of the season, Wood Brothers/JTG Racing announced its plans to enter Marcos Ambrose in both of the Nextel Cup road course races in 2007. Several circumstances have delayed Ambrose’s Cup debut and he will not be competing in Nextel Cup at Watkins Glen with Wood Brothers/JTG Racing this weekend, according to team co-owner, Tad Geschickter. “We want to be totally prepared when we embark on Marcos’ Cup career,” said Geschickter. “We have no doubts that he will succeed at the top level of our sport. The combination of our #21 Cup car fighting to regain a guaranteed starting position in points and the unforeseen complexities of the new ‘Car of Tomorrow’ introduction has forced us to rethink our earlier plans. Combine these factors with Marcos having a real opportunity to finish well inside the coveted top 10 in Busch Series points and we felt that stretching our resources to rush his Cup debut was the wrong thing to do at this time.” (Wood Brothers/JTG Racing/BAM Media PR)

Ambrose wont run the #47 for Wood Bros because they dont want Ambrose knocking out the #21.

I have heard that its official that Ambrose will run the #77 for Robby.

What a slap in the face to Nascrap, I love it!

That is totally awesome. The car will have Camping World and Kingsford decals. This is great because I like them both and Robby needs a team mate. Plus, Camping World and Kingsford have strong Kentucky connections. Camping World HQ is in Bowling Green and the Kingsford plant is in Summer Shade, KY.

I saw Marcos on Nascar Now and he's really excited to be driving for Robby. They talked and talked about Robby being fined, but never addressed the issue that Robby was turned on a CAUTION. Gee... I wonder why? Idiots.

Very cool. Good for Robby. I hope Ambrose does well. We all know Robby can build a road course car and it will be interesting to see if Ambrose can get a handle on the COT.

It would be fitting if Ambrose won Watkins Glen while racing for Robby. Nascar would probably deny him the win. :p

The cars that Marcos drove down under were more similar to the COT than what he's been driving here in the US. Of course there are differences but the overall look is pretty much the same.

I honestly don't give him much of a chance but hope he does well. It's not like he's going up against a bunch of rookies. He just needs to stay out of trouble and do the best he can, which is what his strategy will of course be.

Buckaroo, you got that one right. There will be a large field of excellent talent at W.G. I would start naming them but am afraid of missing a few. This has the potential to be one heck of a race.

I used to watch the V-8 Supercar series all the time if i remember correctly wasn't Marcos a star in that series? I remember the cars being very similiar to the COT in looks, but i doubt they handled anything like their Nascar counterparts. It will be interesting for sure and makes for a good mid week story, nice gesture on Gordons' part.

I don't see whats cool about it.....Marcos costed Robbie the lead and possibly the race, And he hires him...Sorry, but I think Robbie is an idiot for doing it.

Why? It is a good will jesture on Gordons' part, i think it is pretty cool of him to do that.

It helps to bolster Robbie's declining popularity by putting salve on whatever fans hurt feelings for how he acted. It's a good move for publicity and Marcos is no slouch so he may be able to bring in more coin than it costs to run the race.

Declining popularity? Are you kidding me?!?!?

Have you even seen how much more support Robby has garnered from fellow drivers and fans throughout this whole debacle? Everyone knows Nascar was mostly wrong except for some idiot fans...

Quote of the Day

“A bit of old outback Australian culture involved playing a game of Australian football, having a fight and then heading to the pub together for a beer – I guess this is a bit like that.”
– Australian Marcos Ambrose after it was announced that he would be a teammate for one race with Robby Gordon, the same driver who spun him out the week before.

Yes, Marcos was a superstar downunder. And the cars they run aren't covered with metal so they are lighter and I'd imagine, handle quite differently.
