Phil Giebler is a 23-year-old from Oxnard, California who has sacrificed everything he has to make it to Formula One. Phil's story is the quintessential American dream -- a young man working hard against enormous odds by the strength of his own effort and desire to achieve his goals -- all while sacrificing the security and comfort of home, family and friends. He moved to Europe in 1999 on his own and shoehorned his way into the elite European racing ranks -- often by participating in open-seat auditions akin to Hollywood casting calls. In Formula Renault, French and Spanish Formula 3, and Formula Palmer Audi, he painstakingly learned French, Spanish, and Italian instead of expecting his teams to speak English. He did it so that he could better interface with them and be embraced as an American that respected the cultures of the teams for whom he drove. On his own, out of his own pocket, and buoyed by the immense talent he possesses, Phil has taken all of the necessary steps to put his racing talent in front of the F1 community... all while sleeping on friends' couches and floors, in the back seats of rental cars, and at airport gates.
