Cleanup Underway At Atlanta
Only one week after suffering damage from a tornado, Atlanta Motor Speedway had cars back on the track Thursday for BMS M3 brake testing. However, the laundry list of repairs is quite long. Among the projects needing attention before the track's NASCAR weekend in October: about 15 to 20 miles of ornamental and chain link fencing will need to be replaced; 12 to 14 suites sustained roof damage; the entire frontstretch suite level will need to be remodeled; in the Weaver Grandstand area on the backstretch, the suites will be taken down and much of the concession area will be demolished. The facility's staff was able to return to work in the administration building on Thursday. A number of condominiums sustained damage and the building exterior will require major repair. In addition, the souvenir warehouse located outside Turn 2 will need to be rebuilt; all ticket booths will need to be rebuilt; almost half of the outside portion of the catch fence was damaged; several areas of the SAFER barrier will need to be repaired; and the Turn 1 scoring tower will be rebuilt before race weekend. The backstretch scoring tower will be taken down.(Scene Daily)
