An idea to switch up NASCAR???

We all know most NASCAR races are long, really long. As fans we settle in for several hours of racing and for the most part we love it. But we know that at some (most?) tracks drivers don't give 100% for the whole race. Sometimes they ride around until "Go-time" and then give 100%.

Most of us have been to lower-level "Saturday night" races at smaller tracks with several different classes of racing. These typically have a few heat races and then a main event. Have you noticed these racers typically give 100% on every lap?

So... what if NASCAR changed a few (or maybe all) of their races from the current format of "500 miles" or "500 laps" into 10 separate races of 50 miles or 50 laps on the same day? Then you would have 10 different winners on the same day and I guarantee each and every racer that was "serious" about winning would give 100% effort every single lap. It would make the points race much more exciting too!

Just thinking out loud people, what are your thoughts?

Split into 2 races is as far as I would go. That way pit stops and strategy still mean something.

All NA$CAR needs to do to shorten races and use up the time slots is run 2 heat races where the field in narrowed down to 20 cars then shorten the final race to 200 miles.

Most on here think the truck races and the Nationwide races are better more exciting races than the Sprint Cup. I think that's why so many Sprint Cup drivers race in the lower ranked series also.

This all sounds good...but then when will I have time for a nap. At my age, I need my nap, and the 500 mile races allows me that time.:)

Part of being in the "Big Time" is the endurance needed to complete the longer races. Otherwise it would be like the local tracks and what would be the difference? Sure, the whole endurance thing includes watching what could be at times a boring race, but just like sprints and marathons, you have to separate the men from the boys, so to speak. I think NASCAR is doing what they can by breaking up the races with mystery cautions and double file restarts.

I think that they should create a whole new NASCAR division where they take every NASCAR fans idea and implement it. It would end up being a clusterf&%k of monumental proportions that everyone would still complain about. :owquitit:

+1

So a race of street cars on dirt short road courses that are only 10 laps each and everyone who comes in the gate kicks Brian France?

Perhaps it would but wouldn't every fan then get what they wanted? ;)

I like 500 mile races on some tracks but I am OK with 400 milers at some tracks (Fontucky, Michigan to name 2) as well. The shorter distance does seem to elevate the intensity a bit.

I would love to see the CUP cars on a 1-mile dirt track. And in that case, heat races and a Main Event would be appropriate.

But I also like what they do in the Australian V8 Series, where they will sometimes have a race on Saturday and another race on Sunday using the same cars for both races.

Yeah, we do get a little out of hand at times. :D

How 'bout if they race for 50 laps, then get out of the car and ride a bicycle 50 laps, then 50 laps in the pool, then run on foot for 50 laps, then.............:sarcasm: WTF?

Ticketmaster does not have those tickets posted yet. Where did you say I could get mine at? ::XXROFL:

For sure..... We all have or own ideas as to how to make things better. I just question those that want to make the races shorter, or break them up into heat races. That kinda sounds like my local short track racing and I'm certain that's the same for everyone else as well. If that's the kind of racing the collective you want then get out there and support your local tracks. Please leave my NASCAR alone. The last thing I want to do is travel 600+ miles to go watch a shortened race. Dropping a 100 @ Dover/Pocono/California..... made sense because of the amount of time to complete those events but I can't see doing something similar to that across the board.

Have a qualifying event like F1. If you haven't seen one of these, program your DVR, it's entertaining.

That's certainly how NASCAR should qualify for road course races, MOE. They do group qualifying in the Nationwide Series for road course races - and I like that a lot.
