An Idea

My buddies and I were watching the race this week and started tossing an idea around- if NASCAR is serious about the cars being production, or aero-equal, what's the point? Either everyone has the same car with different headlight and manufacturer stickers or you start taking the top-end models (Monte Carlo SS, Charger R/T, Taurus SE) let the teams put roll cages in the them, paint them up, and race-safe fuel cells and turn them loose.

I would watch that. In fact, I think a lot of people would. Here's Junior or Mayfield, or Johnson driving the car you can buy, not some hopped up version with the same stickers.

Toss out all the stuff- I know they couldn't, and never will, the question is would you be interested, and would you watch the same as you do every week?

I would still watch it, I like that idea, but like you said it couldn't happen, and never will happen.

Actually, that's the way it all started. In fact, some of those old cars that raced were driven to the track. There were times when they took a car right off the lot and raced it.

But, here's the problem these days...it's called technology and the money it takes to get that technology. It really wasn't all that long ago that a team might use one model for a race because it was better at say an aero track and another model for a short track. You know that Ford wouldn't even think about letting Roush or Yates use a Dodge or a Chevy in a race or two. They, the manufacturers are vested in these teams and so there isn't a chance of a change. Also, because they are vested in the teams, they demand an equal chance at winning, thus we have gotten those damned old templates. We are getting closer and closer to a glorified IROC race with the cars each year and it won't get any better. If you want to watch street cars race, you can do that each and every weekend at your local track. We do it and enjoy it every bit as much as watching the very best run on Sundays. Besides, we are able to not only get to meet the owners/drivers/crew, we can also become friends with them and if one so chooses, we may even be able to find work on those teams.

Hey Kyle. What you are proposing would be Stock Car racing. And that would be contrary to NASCAR. We all know what NASCAR means, don't we?

 :idunno:
So you see, they would never go for it. Because in this business, what you see is not what you get. Like Pro Wrestling. :headbang:
