Andretti to drive for Earnhardt Ganassi

i like john but don't like this deal. like many other +40 age drivers my question is why sign them unless they bring sponsorship with them? unless you are a proven champion, which john isn't, go with younger talent and more upside potential. we know john can run mid-pack (maybe) with a decent car - big deal. he's not going to be the hard charger that will win a race.

I disagree with you 100%.

John Andretti's a fantastic driver, he's just never had great equipment. Remember who the last driver to win for RPM is. Remember, Andretti put that #43 car in the top 15 while others could barely hold top 30 finishes. Andretti's had more success at RPM than a Truck Series champion, a Cup Series champion and The King's son.

As far as his age, that didn't stop him from having very impressive runs in the IndyCar World Series last year either.

I like John.....I'm at least glad that he has a part time ride and maybe more.

Yea I was a little surprised by this choice. John's Ok... I guess he's what you need for a part time driver you know ? He's a pretty good road racer too.

While I agree that he did well at road races , I don't think that this is a good idea. I really believe that John was done several years ago. If my memory serves me, the 43 car was in the top ten a couple of times and won some races before John came into it, did well the first year (1999) but it went all down hill from there. Was it the car or driver? I say both. He didn't set the world on fire before and won't set it on fire now. He's just a field filler.

I disagree. The best season the 43 car had since Petty retired was with John Andretti in 1998. He also won in '99 and had a lot of good runs in 2000 and 2001 and 2002 before Petty gave the ride to Fittapaldi.

Andretti's problem is that he's too nice. He won't wreck somebody or move them if he has to.

bingo! these cars aren't open wheel. bumping and moving people out of the way are sometimes necessary if you want to win in nascar. where's casey stengel when you need him? <g>

If he was any good, he would have a full time ride.
Why would he turn down a full time ride in NASCAR if he could drive in the IRL ? Because of the Indy 500 ?
Why did Tony Stewart leave ?
Why did Montoya leave F-1 ?
Because the money is good. And the pressure isn't the same as it is in F-1.
There's something wrong with Andretti that we don't know, or he wouldn't be in the situation that he's in.
Do you think that Petty would hire Almendinger over Andretti if he was any good ?

And oh by the way....Your a 20 year old NASCAR insider ?

Quite an accomplishment. Does your mom know about this ?
