Andretti will be stand by for Junior at Pocono

Earnhardt Junior said Sunday that he might have to seek relief again this week at Pocono.

"We'll just have to wait and see," Earnhardt said. "That's what we did [at New Hampshire].

"We just didn't know, and we won't know."

His Dale Earnhardt Inc. teammate John Andretti, who has run a limited schedule this year, will be the fill-in for Pocono because Truex, the Busch Series points leader, will be racing in Colorado next week.

Earnhardt, who performed admirably while in the car, didn't try to hide the fact that he's hurting from the burns on his chin and legs.

"It just hurts," he said. "I mean, it hurts all the time. That's all it does.

"But sitting down is a whole lot better than standing up."

I don't think he is the right candidate for the ride, but they probably only have a short stack to pick from. ;)

Lil'E said that he only lets a few people drive his car. And, Andretti is to be one of them...that is too funny. They must be having a scrap metal drive in Mooresville...

well, considering that andretti is already under contract with dei, and the busch series is in pikes peak, who else does he have to choose from?

I know that isn't a serious question. Why don't you realize the honor it would be for anyone, and I mean anyone to drive the fabled #8? I would be willing to bet that Jimmie Johnson would park his car to finish for Lil'E.

The Pikes Peak race is 3pm. The Pocono is 12:30. Lil'E might be able to qualify his own car. At the worst he would get the 1st provisional which is better than starting last. Then Truex flies in to drive relief. Or, maybe somebody from the Trucks. They're off...

I'm also surprised with Jr.'s pick. I'll really be shocked if Jr. drives this weekend. He really has to watch out for infection. Seen many burns with my job and it takes many, many weeks for the pain level to be tolerable. He's gotta be taking some kind of pain medication as well.

From what I understand, he's stopped the pain meds so he doesn't violate Nascar rules aboud substance abuse. Antibiotics won't interfere with the substance abuse thing.

I see no issues with Andretti driving. He has plenty of experience in the cup circuit. He is somewhat known for his road race abilities (which many people compare Pocono to). Remember most of Andretti's cup time has been in Petty equipment which most people would not consider top notch equipment.

I also think Andretti would be good from the standpoint that he would know it is better to finish top 15 than to crash trying to get a top 5 or win the race. I am sure he will do fine.

Maybe Andretti's DIE contract says to keep his mouth shut about wht he sees in DEI cars.

As for Johnson - by the look of the standings, the #48 is the car to be in right now.

I bet Dale Earnhardt Jr. runs qualifying and the race, but lets Andretti do a lot of the practicing...
