Chrissy Wallace Makes History At Hickory
Nineteen-year-old Chrissy Wallace made history Saturday night at Hickory Motor Speedway when she became the first female driver to win in the track’s top division, the Late Model Stocks.
Wallace, the daughter of NASCAR driver Mike Wallace, qualified third behind Matt McCall and Ashley Huffman. Huffman moved to the lead when he passed McCall on lap 11 of the 50-lap feature. After working her way into second, Wallace was able to pull her Robert Hamke Chevrolet alongside Huffman on lap 31. Three laps later, she completed the pass and she was able to hold off a late charge from point leader Andy Loden who had started sixth.
Wallace celebrated with an emotional call to her dad, who was at Dover International Speedway.
“On Hickory Speedway Birthday Night, to win with a brand new team, the second time out of the box and become the first female feature winner at HMS was amazing and more than I could have hoped for.” Said Wallace.
