•NASCAR tightening up technical rules: A new NASCAR rule, or rather a stricter interpretation of the rules, was just issued to Sprint Cup teams. And reaction is mixed among crew chiefs, who worry the new rule - in part designed as a cost-limiting rule -- might further inhibit technological innovation on the stock car racing trail. The new rule requires teams to submit not only all car parts for pre-race week inspection at the sport's Concord, N.C., R&D center but also to submit all 'tweaks' in designs. The rule is in part a response to:
• the oil-pan issues the Joe Gibbs teams had in June at Michigan, where all three teams showed up Friday with a new oil pan design which NASCAR officials didn't like.
• the Clint Bowyer/2010 playoff controversy over the chassis design of his Loudon, N.H. race car.
• and three, the possibility that a team could slip into the chase with a good run at Richmond (the last race of the regular season) by using a car with unapproved modifications not discovered until well after the race.
The new rule further tightens the technological 'box' that Cup teams must work within these days. And teams have long complained about how tight that box already is. NASCAR Cup director John Darby says "It's just a better way to do business - before a car owner has to invest a lot of money in a part, we can approve it, because they make the big investment.(MikeMulhern.net)(8-27-2011)

Why don't they just stick them in IROC cars already... jeez.

It's getting to the point where it would make more sense for NASCAR to build all of the chassis, install the brakes and suspension, hang the bodies and let the teams add the engine, transmission and headlight decals.

that's where it will end up years from now when it's all said and done. Bank on it.

spec engines for all!!! manufacturers abandon the sport. jack rousch has nothing to whine about....

never see a Smokey Yunick again....

It really ruins the privacy of the teams but I think its good to file out the cheaters in the sport. I think Penalites should vary by your points position and you status in the series for example Jimmy Johnson should get a way bigger penality than lets say Greg Biffle cuz Johnson is more established in the sport and should not be cheating to get an edge

maybe a % of the competitor's points?

yea something like that I just dont see why someone who is 33rd in points should be docked the same amount of points as someone who is 2nd or 3rd in points

When NASCAR came up with the wildcard, I wrote a blog about cheating for a win to make the chase and NASCAR's history of not taking away wins. They should address this now by splitting hairs and saying a win by cheating won't count toward the chase. Bowyers 150 point penalty last year would be about 37 points now. There are a couple of guys who would still be top 20 after that.

I know this has probably been a hot topic on here b4 but I think nascar should have a list that says x violation gets you finded this much and x amount of points. Also make clear they should also have a multiplier for each time you get caught cheating. so like the second time you get 2x as much taken away and if u get caught winning that win cannont count toward a wild card spot. It would work I think

How dumb is it that NASCAR fines a team that goes .06 over the rear height (Bowyer) the same as they do a team that dips it's sheet metal in acid to save weight (RedBull)?

very dumb almost as dumb as the crew chief (Larry (David) Hyder) that decided to put rocket fuel additive in his drivers car to make it go faster (Waltrip Daytona 2007)

Waltrip still pocketed the big bonus from Toyota.

lol you know if Nascar let everyone cheat it would probably make the racing more exciting lol technically if everyone cheats no one cheats so why not Boys have at it

It will be very interesting to see what this new rule does for the competition next year. Will we beat the record for number of different winners? I am sure that record will fall this year.

Sounds like NASCAR want's to figure out what, if anything, some teams are doing because they can't find what they are doing during regular inspections. This may be aimed at the #2 just a little because they have made a huge jump in peformance the past 5 races.

I think the secret to BK is that broken ankle lol

I have seen a huge improvement in the foward bite of the Penske cars, the #2 in particular. Paul Wolfe has been know to innovate, but that doesn't mean he is cheating.

I bet the secret to the #2 is that it is the #2. I am sure it is the same cars that Busch drove last year. It has seemed that the #2 has always been light years ahead of the other Penske cars. I think it just to Kesolowski this long to figure them out.

Another reasoning could be that his recent escape from death has given him that much more courage to run these cars more on the edge. He probably feels pretty invincible right now. Driving that car deeper and harder into the corners probably are nothing to him now.

well all that I can think of is that maybe he found the perfect gear ratio's for each track leading up to the chase and maybe even the last ten races. Information im sure he would have shared with his team mates. Anything else Nascar would have found by now I think

Then why isn't Denny on a roll after watkins glen he hit that wall hard

may as well just give them iroc cars to race. take away any advantage teams might be able to tweak into the cars. issue the cars for practice and qualifying, then turn them back into nascar until taken on the track again. doesn't even have to be the same car since they're built/modded to the same specs.
