A 3-year-old Garland boy was fatally shot in his home Wednesday night, police say.
The child, whose name had not been released, was taken to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. But police later confirmed he had died.
Initial reports indicated the boy had been shot in the head, and police were still investigating whether the shooting was accidental.
Police were called to the 4700 block of Maritime Cove, near President George Bush Turnpike and Interstate 30.
Both parents were home, as were other small children, when the boy was shot, Garland police Officer Joe Harn said.

It's Bush's fault.

(Sorry, had to do it)

This is ridiculous.............which constitutional right protects our children from the Second Amendment?

GARLAND, Texas -
Garland police are investigating the shooting death of a 3-year-old boy in his home near Lake Ray Hubbard.
The accident happened around 6 p.m. Wednesday in the 4700 block of Maritime Cove.
The child, identified as John O'Brien, was shot in the head with a handgun. He was rushed to Children's Medical Center in Dallas but did not survive.
Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. They haven't yet said who pulled the trigger or where the gun came from. However, they do believe it was an accident.
Both of the boy's parents and two sisters were at home at the time of the shooting. The 911 call came from a parent, police said.
Police said it does not appear there were any signs of violence at the home leading up to the incident.

Neighbors say the family is close knit.
"I saw the lights and heard the chopper. I came out front and this is so surprising and I hope the best for the family," said Dustin Chumley.
"I just came outside and noticed the police cars then I saw the baby get carried away on the stretcher," added Kerry Robinson.
Relatives are now caring for the boy's two sisters.

It was negligence on someones part. You go to jail for negligent homicide and vehicular homicide. Until parents start spending a few years in jail for shooting their own kid the lesson won't be learned to be responsible.
They'd be charged and tried if it was a neighbors kid.

Sadly enough it seems that happens about once a month around here but now that it's fixin to get hot they will be leaving the kids in the hot cars instead of shooting them.
Some people just don't use common sense.

When we moved about 6 weeks ago, a 4 yr old boy was shot in the head and died right on the street we left, a day or two after we moved. The dad is facing charges. Those charges sounded pretty serious, but not sure how serious those charges are. It was only a block or two from where we lived. We heard gunshots on occasion and it certainly wasn't anyone hunting as we lived very much in the middle of the city.

A 3-year-old Garland boy who died earlier this week apparently shot himself.
According to a search warrant affidavit, John O'Brien found the loaded pistol at his parents' home on Wednesday and somehow fired it at his head.
Both parents and several of the boy's siblings were home at the time. But, Garland police said the boy's dad told them he did not know how he got the gun.
Police are investigating whether anyone in the home was negligent and made the weapon accessible to the child.
The search warrant affidavit specifically mentions the dad's phone and that he had been texting when officers arrived. Investigators want to see what those texts were all about and if they had anything to do with the gun.
No charges have been filed in the case.

How does a 3 year old get their hands on a loaded gun? I know I couldn't live with myself if that happened to my child. I realize this is painful for the family but somebody needs to go to jail. Only jailing irresponsible parents will others, hopefully, get the hint and take precautions.
