Suspended Waltrip Racing team members not allowed at COT test

While Robby Reiser and Kenny Francis the two crew chiefs served with four-week suspensions at Daytona International Speedway were free to come to Bristol Motor Speedway for the official Car of Tomorrow test, Michael Waltrip Racing's crew chief and vice president of competition were not.

Their suspension over the use of an illegal fuel additive is more severe than the others.

NASCAR officials also still have the No. 55 Toyota that was impounded at Daytona, but Nextel Cup Series Director John Darby says that is more a result of procedure than a sign that any investigation is ongoing. Darby also said that it is up to MWR officials to decide when to apply for reinstatement of David Hyder and Bobby Kennedy.

"I don't know if we've got an exact timeline on it," Darby said. "A couple of weeks is obviously nowhere near long enough. The team will have the ability to apply for reinstatement for either one or both of the crewmembers in time. At the time of reapplication, if the feeling internally is that it still is not enough time, it will be denied. If we get through a long enough time period and maybe get a little more help on how the whole situation came together, we'll look at it at that point."

Not being able to test the COT will hurt them even more. Every team needs to test the car if they want to even have a chance at competing. Waltrip is going to have big, big, problems getting on the track this year.

This is not fair. The other teams with penaltys get to test there cars. Guess Nasacr is changing its mind about having Toyota on board

Maybe the crew cheif had no idea what was added. I dont know, But cheating is cheating no matter how you look at it.

messing with fuel is a BIG BIG no no....many team owners and drivers thought that MW himself should have been sent home at Daytona.

MWR is in trouble...they better step up to the plate on race day from now forward.

Maybe I am reading the original post incorrectly but nowhere do I see where it says that the car is not allowed to be tested.

What I do see in the post is where the crew chief and the president of competiton are not allowed to be there at the test.

If Waltrip truely has spent a lot of money on good knowledgeable people, the absence of a crew chief at a test will not be that large of an impact. I would think that he already has someone filling in at that position.

Nascar has made it very clear that they do not employ the drivers or the teams.

When was the last time you were suspended from work by someone other than your employer?
