Suspended Waltrip Racing team members not allowed at COT test
While Robby Reiser and Kenny Francis the two crew chiefs served with four-week suspensions at Daytona International Speedway were free to come to Bristol Motor Speedway for the official Car of Tomorrow test, Michael Waltrip Racing's crew chief and vice president of competition were not.
Their suspension over the use of an illegal fuel additive is more severe than the others.
NASCAR officials also still have the No. 55 Toyota that was impounded at Daytona, but Nextel Cup Series Director John Darby says that is more a result of procedure than a sign that any investigation is ongoing. Darby also said that it is up to MWR officials to decide when to apply for reinstatement of David Hyder and Bobby Kennedy.
"I don't know if we've got an exact timeline on it," Darby said. "A couple of weeks is obviously nowhere near long enough. The team will have the ability to apply for reinstatement for either one or both of the crewmembers in time. At the time of reapplication, if the feeling internally is that it still is not enough time, it will be denied. If we get through a long enough time period and maybe get a little more help on how the whole situation came together, we'll look at it at that point."
