Tee Trouble

A student at a junior high school in Pennsylvania was told to remove the pro-life tee shirt he was wearing because the message was the equivalent of a swastika, reports the Thomas More Law Center.

The unnamed student wore a shirt reading “Abortion is Homicide. You will not silence my message. You will not mock my God. You will stop killing my generation. Rock for Life.”

The center says the principal of Anington Junior High School told the student to either cover the shirt or turn the shirt inside out because the message was inappropriate to be displayed in school. He said the shirt and message were the equivalent of a swastika being displayed on a shirt.

Two things:

1.) The principal needs to get a grip.

2.) Why is the kid wearing this to school? Is this legit, or was he trying to stir up the pot, like high school kids like to do?

Considering it was a junior high school, the kid was probably seeing how far he could go. Most schools I know of would never permit that kind of shirt to be worn, either.

As far as the principal's comment goes, it is a little far-fetched, but he/she was probably just echoing the position of the school board.

I don't see how it is equivilant to a swastika.. but i do think the kid is trying to stir the pot.

Seems like free speech to me. But then I agree with that message whole-heartedly. If I didn't, I would probably be offended. But, what's that old expression? "If the truth hurts...?"

Free speech, sure.

Would you go into someone's house and start making fun of their family or calling them names and not expect a pop in the jaw?

A school is a place for education, not blabbing away about political issues on a T-shirt.

I can see your point. When I was in school you couldn't wear anything close to that.

Neither could I. We couldn't have anything on our clothing, not even advertisements.

And when you're talking to someone at work or whatnot, do you just insult them off the top of your head? Do you point and laugh at fat people walking down the street? Make fun of retarded people to their faces?

Probably not right? Why? Because you don't want to hurt their feelings or offend them. It has nothing to do with this "free speech" thing people throw around so much.

If that makes me a "PC liberal" then I guess I am. ;)

Nah, the PC Liberal will talk that way, but will shut up the opposing talk, like throwing the kid out of school for wearing that shirt, but the kid right next to him wearing a save the whales shirt will go unnoticed. Now that is PC. I agree that this shouldn't be permitted. In fact, I'm one of those who believe that the kids in school should have some kind of uniform code. Then there wouldn't even be something like this to worry about.

Me my self I think the kid was standing up for what he thinks is right and I admire him for it.

There is a place for everything, and the shool mayhave been the wrong place but U can't compare that shirt to the nazies. If they can have a safe room for gays and lesbians a kid can wear that shirt. If they remove one contervirsial thing they should remove them all.
