I have 18 years of NASCAR and other racing simulators. A true 10,000 a year to upgrade my computer addiction. I raced a stockcar as a kid for two years reached my way upto late model before I met my first um Girl? She did not want to share me with racecars, and my little buddy down below agreed :( I have been to Vegas (Petty experience) and did the full deal, classroom and everything fricken loved it. I have studied every single aspect of racing down the molecular level of tire and asphalt.
To know how serious I have gotten on this, my latest rig was close to 25,000 to put together. 3-47 inch montiors, monster computer, T500 steering wheel and pedals (shifter), and my latest treat a full motion seat platform by sim experience "stage 4" :)

Anyway, anyone else race sims? I do iRacing, LFS, and still meet many of my friends from the Grand Prix Legends days for a good ole 1969 era of hang on tight. I like to run the track of the week before a NASCAR race so I can get a feel of the game that is gonna play out on TV.

That's insane. Do you have any pictures of your current setup? I'm not a huge sim racer by any means but I do enjoy racing games for the console systems. I treated myself to getting a logitech g25 racing wheel for the ps3/pc and I thought I spent too much on that lol

I used to race online a bit years ago. Its the most fun you can have with your cloths on. I would love to get back into it. It used to b e free with nascar2003. Where does one start to get back into it?

I remember my first race at the glen and everybody told me to just stay out of the way. I did and everybody wrecked and I won the race. What a thrill it was.

You gotta remember I was addicted to this stuff early, back when computers were regularly 5000 dollars and memory was 150 bucks for 16MB. Yeah sure I will grab some pictures next time I think of it and post em,.gotta get the beer case off the dashboard first :)

You can go to iracing.com if you like, but can get pricey if you want all the content. There is a nice free true to life physics game made for BMW to promote their m3 . http://www.bmw.com/com/en/newvehicles/mseries/m3coupe/2007/experience/game/content.html

It lets you race Nurburing Grand Prix circuit, which is a great road course for practising momentum off the turns.

I have raced the NRO which was on TEN network gaming and I have had some great races,.one being watkins glen and I would have to say 12 years later I still remember that race clearly.

But iRacing has the best representation of tire physics compared to my experience in real life. Slip angles, contact patch control, how air pressures affect handling so on.

I am a sim racer, I used to race NR2003, and then quit for awhile. I'm now getting back into it with iRacing and the street stock class. I love iRacing and I love everything that it offers. I am currently saving up for my own sim racing set-up, but I doubt it'll be as complex or as impressive as yours. I too would love to see a picture of your sim racing set-up! :)

I still screw around with NR2003 from time to time. There are nice modders out there who are putting out modern cars and tracks so it's all good.

To keep this topic going (because I do believe that Sim Racing is a part of auto racing). One thing I have noticed in my time in iRacing is 1) I love short track racing in the Street Stock car. 2) The more laps I turn, the better and faster I get. :D

The street stock is very fun to run, easy to catch when getting loose, low enough power you don't have feather to find grip on exit of turns. And the big thing, they can take a beating and not get slow :) Have you ever gotten a chance to run Charlotte Lrge with it yet? :) Hilarious fun

And ya, I would say sim racing has reached a realism level that would bring you as close to real without being in a car. If you take into consideration I can drink too much beer and eat like **** while racing,..it just might be more dangerous than real racing lol

I used to race back in the Papyrus days. I still have every Papyrus nascar game except for Nascar4. I used to frequent the nascarnet (nnracing.com) boards everyday for hours. i cant believe that site is still up. as a matter of fact I got in trouble when I was 16 for posting the Daytona International Speedway directory online. The one that papyrus worked on for Nascar1999 I believe, but never released it as Sega still owned the rights. Nothing really ever came from it but a cease and desist. Man those were the days.

lol. I mostly drink water when I race. But yea, I'm a big fan of Street Stock not only because of how easy the car is to race, but also the fact that I love watching the street stock class at Caraway Speedway and other short tracks in this area. I love watching guys bring cars that they worked on in their own garage throughout the week and then bring their machines to the track on Saturday night to battle it out on the track. That is the essence of racing to me. So, I take a little part in that tradition myself on iRacing.

i will watch sim races sometimes when they are broadcast online. i will also pull up old sim races on youtube and watch.

Yea, I like to watch NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Championship. There's no provision points and you have to qualify to enter into the races. I don't know which of the 18 races they are on right now, but I do love watching sim racers compete for the $10,000 prize.
