I was just wondering if anybody else here likes Dwight Yoakam? I know he does some acting, but I am refering to his music here. I used to really like his music a lot quite a few years ago. But, I hadn't really heard any of it in a while. Due in some part to the fact that what music of his I did have was on vinyl. Something triggered a memory of one of his songs the other day and I downloaded a bunch of it and I am hooked again.
He has such a cool sound. You can really hear the Buck Owens unfluences as well as a lot of the other "Bakersfield" artists. That sound really developed when a bunch of people from the 'dust bowl' went out there years ago to try to make a living with their music or even just survive. You hear a lot of the spanish guitar as well as other Texas area influences. He also has quite a bit of Hank Williams, Sr. in him too. Long White Cadillac is inspired by Hank's life and his death. Being from a small mining town in Kentucky helped Dwight relate well to this music also. In addition, some of his really good break-up songs were inspired by his nasty break-up with Sharon Stone.
Some of my favorite songs he does are...
*Guitar's, Cadillacs, Hillbilly Music
*Streets of Bakersfield (a duet with Buck Owens)
*I Sang Dixie As He Died
*Little Ways
*Fast As You
*Please, Please, Baby
*Ain't That Lonely Yet
*Long White Cadillac
