I'm looking at a really nice car on ebay that ends later sunday night. Any of you ever buy a car on ebay? It seems like a really nice car and it is only a 4.5 hour drive or so away. I have had really good luck on ebay with only one exception, but a car is a pretty major purchase. Any thoughts?

I don't 4X, I would be scared to death to buy a car on ebay... I mean you can't test drive it or anything. Let us know how it turns out, good luck.

I have purchased 12 cars on Ebay now and have not had any problems they have fast shipping and they come as described I say do it

No problem. ;)

I have a buddy, his brother sold a car on Ebay. Does that help?
Cane, I have bought about 50 of those on Ebay. ;)

4x, I would first look at the guys feedback. IF its good then thats one good thing. The next very important thing is what kind of a warranty he offers. If thats good then you might be on your way. Another important thing is how detailed his pictures and description is. You don't want any surprises when you go to pick it up. Then, if your really confident in the seller, I would go ahead and place a bid. Also, see if you can get the guy to give you a car fax with the vin #

I have never bought a car off of ebay because of fears that it may be a Lemon or have hidden problems that may be the cause of the sell.

Hope this helps...

Thanks for the input AB

Their feedback is outstanding and their pictures are very good and thourough. The only warranty is a 1 month 1,000 mile power-train, but that seems good enough for me. If I get it for what I want to it will be worth the risk. I can pretty much fix anything on the car if it needs repairs, or have it done cheaply enough at work if it is over my head (it doesn't happen too often, but I don't always have the right equipment for some jobs). The only thing I would worry about is the engine, transmission and air conditioning. They are all very costly repairs. But, if I get this thing I'm sure I'll have a very good idea of just what I have by the time I get it home from Indiana.

In addition, I have been in contact with them this evening and they have assured me that the A/C blows hard and cold and that it shifts very smoothly and doesn't use a drop of oil. That is three things it has on my wife's Caravan if that is true. <_<

Looks like youve got yourself a winner 4x. Lets just hope that when you get there its just as good as it sounds! Good luck to ya and plz let us know how things turn out for ya...

I think I've got a winner too, but the auction is far from over. I love and hate ebay at the same time. B) It is very exciting to have something like this going on. But, it can be very nerve-wracking knowing that someone could come up and outbid you in the last second (literally!). I am tempted to use the buy it now feature, but I just can't bring myself to do it yet. There have been several bids already, but the buy it now feature is still available until the reserve is met. This thing could still get very overpriced if people start going bid-crazy on the last day (or in the last hour as usual). If it does, it is not the end of the world. But, my wife is really pretty much in love with this car. She wants it so bad that I am tempted to just use the "buy it now" feature and insure she gets it. But if I do, I will always wonder if I could have gotten it a lot cheaper. If I don't and someone buys it for more than the BIN price, I will be unhappy, but get over it.

Can you see why I love it and hate it at the same time?

Totally understand where you are coming from 4X. Ya want me to go over there and start posting some horrible feedback about the seller so the others stop bidding? Just kidding. Good Luck! I hope you get it at a good price.

4x, Why don't you go over the Kelly Blue Book and see what the average used car price for the pariticular model w/ the features it has is...Then if the Buy it now is less than the appraised value I would strongly consider just buying it flat out to ensure that your wife gets it. But with ebay, things usually tend to go for less than what they may be worth, therefore, you are journeying into a world of uncertainity. If you continue to wait someone else may just snatch that car out from under you with the Buy it Now feature. Thats the thing with Ebay, ya never know.

Actually I thought about that scenario where someone else uses the "buy it now" feature so I just bid slightly above the reserve price. The buy it now feature disappears once the reserve price is met. "Buy it now" is now history and I am the current high bidder. Now I just have to keep busy for the next 8 hours or so and try to keep my mind off of it.

I think since he saw the Grand Prix of Cleveland he is looking to buy a Champ Car

Actually I didn't go to the Grand Prix. My son got sick friday night (probably something he ate at the inlaws 4th of July picnik) and was up most of the night blowing chunks. He was pretty wiped out and dizzy most of the day saturday. I could have still went, but without him it just didn't seem like much fun. So, I gave them to a co-worker. He was orgasmically happy to get them as they were right on the start finish line beside pit row. He is a really good guy who doesn't have the money to do things like that very often, so it felt really good to give them to him.

thats a really nice thing for a guy to do :) If you can't go, the next best thing is to give em to some who can. I am sure you will get a chance to go again.

Hows the bidding going?

I've got like 6 minutes to go. I used esnipe.com ut I'm not sure if it will really work like it is supposed to.

I bought a bunch of cars off ebay, die cast that is, Ill get them cheap and then sell them at my work and sometimes will double my money or barly make some

Well what happened? Did you get it or what?

Yup, sure did :D

I won the auction. The Taurus wagon my wife always wanted is now mine. Not a very sexy car, but at my age sexy is often overruled by practicality. Kelly blue book on the car was $6450. I almost paid the Buy It Now price of $4795. But, I was patient and ended up getting it for $4050! Now, I've just got to get a day off so I can drive to Indiana and get it. ^_^ . I am supposed to be off on Tuesday, but my boss at work has jury duty this week. If he has to be in court, I have to work in his place. If not, I can make an old fashioned road trip. My brother in law is going to drive me down to get it whenever I can get off. He was canned by Goodyear recently too, so he has a lot of free time on his hands.

congrats 4x, you did something that I probably never would have the guts to do. I hope it works out for you.

That's cool 4X. Hope it works out so you can go get it soon.

Glad to see that you got the car that your wife wanted so badly 4x. Have fun on your Idiana road trip!

My day off got stitched to Saturday and my wife didn't want ot wait that long, so she said she would go get it. The lady that is selling the car offered to meet my wife half-way between so instead of haing to make a 560 mile round trip she is making about a 300 round trip. Not a bad deal if you ask me. Plus, she should already have her car by now if my guess is right on the timing. Thanks for the input and support guys and girls :salute:

She just called me and told me just got the car! She said it is absolutely gorgeous and exactly what she wanted. She was in lust with the car after seeing the pictures, etc. but she is even happier now that she sees it in person and owns it! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

How did the seller get back home? :D And how did your wife get both cars back home? Did she take her brother?

I know that feeling of "could've gotten it cheaper" all too well

I mistakingly bid early in an auction once for something that was $245 at its original price... a Photoreading personal learning course.

I bid like $200 max and my bid was outbid... so I waited until the last minute of the auction and bid $235 (any more and it would've been just as easy to get the course new). Final price ended up being $212.50. I'm pretty sure I could've gotten a lower price if I hadn't made a bid so early in the auction, but it's still well worth every penny. :D

You know, I never really thought about how the seller would get back home ^_^ . I think her husband went with her. My wife had her brother drive her down there and follow her back. She should be back here pretty soon. I can't wait to see it. What has my life come to? I'm excited about a freaking STATION WAGON
