I started a pain management program for my back today. They switched me from Vicodin HP (10mg) to Percocet/Oxycodone (10mg). I took my first one a few hours ago and I can really tell the difference. It helps the pain quite a bit more, but I am really feeling a little stoned.

Has anyone else in here taken Percocet for more than a few days? I am hopeful this stoned feeling won't happen every time I take it. While it feels pretty good right now, I can't imagine trying to function on a daily basis feeling like this. I'm sure I'll get used to it soon. I function on a lot of medicine daily already, but this is a little different from anything I've taken in a long time.

I've tried to figure out if 10mg is a normal dosage for this stuff, but I'm not finding much info on the net.

I just talked to the wife and asked her. She's an RN and said that if this is just short term, yeah, you'll feel pretty much like you did, but if it's long term, you'll begin to build a tollerance to the drug and it's effectiveness will wane. But remember, you can get hooked on these drugs very easy. Good luck.

thats what i was thinking when i say the Oxy part.

heck, I can't even take aspirin. I have a pain or headache I have to put up with it.

Back in 04 i had a herniated L5 disk in my back, I was on all kinds of meds, the primary one being Vicodin 800mg. These were like horse pills, I built up a tollerance to them, so of course I took more to function and get through the day. I was still trying to work outside running a lawn care business with a friend of mine at the time in Colorado Springs. I pretty much don't remember the entire month of July, 2004, my short term memory is still screwed up because of all the meds, and I ended up dumping my highly reputable doc for a very good Chiropractor who ended up helping me more in 4 weeks than the back doc did in 3 months. Be very careful of Narcotics, highly addictive, and the weaning off process is very difficult. Percs do nothing for me I can take 10 of them and they have no effect, but Vicodin sure did. When I quit cold turkey I was so sick for 3 days I thought I was going to die! Never will I let a doc prescribe them to me again, be very savy in your choices , and get a second or even third opinion. I opted for no surgery, I am working out again, play raquetball, and lead a normal life. I do have permanent nerve damage in my left leg, leaving my last 2 toes and side of my foot some what numb, but I can live with that. The back treatment the Chiro gave me was called ABS, here is a link http://www.americanbacksolutions.com/ABSFAQ.html it worked wonders for me.

I pretty much went through the same thing with my 40ft fall. I'd rather live with the pain than not be able to drive and know whats going on around me. I function pretty well know.

I take a 10 mg. Flexeril (muscle relaxer) and a 500 mg. Darvocet when my chronic back pain gets to be a problem. I usually like to take them when I go to bed and when I wake up, I feel a lot better.

The side effects have dropped off dramatically in the last 24 hours. It has been nice to have this much pain relief for even this short time so far. I definitely still hurt, but it is much more tolerable on the Percocet. It's hard to describe what being in this much cronic pain does to you mentally.

I know what you are saying, the pain i went through with my L5 disc was nothing i have ever seen before. I have a high tolerance for pain, but that was something i could not stand, messed up my life, my psyche, and my body for a long time.
